Orion1871 FA investigating claims that Oxford defender Ciaron Brown was deliberately booked during FA Cup third round defeat by Arsenal

Sorry, is this a case of an official deliberately setting out to book a specific player or is it the player himself setting out to deliberately get booked for some reason? What did he do to get booked?

I am hearing allegedly its totally player related. Unusual betting patterns / timing etc.

However, if bookies offer stupid odds for stupid things surely they take the hit.

If it is circumstantial then maybe but bookies don't like paying out unless they have to. If spot fixing has taken place, well that's just illegal.

Just been forwarded by a friend who is an Oxford fan a screenshot of a WhatsApp message sent before the Oxford game

Message reads

If any of you are doing a bet builder my mate’s playing for Oxford tonight and he’s going to get himself booked he’s 8-1. Charon Brown

Does look a little bit odd.

He certainly did everything he could to get booked on the 59th minute; bundled over one player, then walked away with the ball before pushing over another player........it is reported that just one bet of £200 on him getting booked was enough for suspicions to be raised.

But what is in it for him? he might get - at best a few grand, but is it worth it?

Especially as it’s so obvious really. However really don’t think bookies help themselves by offering odds on stupid things like that as they are so easily within a player’s control.

Surely, it can't be another new manager appointed a few days before we play them next month? How many would that make it this season four, five?

Think it could be 6 if they take a month or so to get the right man - it’s been Stoke, Sunderland, Huddersfield, Luton, Hull so far.

Another promotion for Norwood mind, the player who it was OK to lose because George Evans and Liam Kelly were better

Can see Warnock getting that gig, with a view to Bamba taking over in the long term

It is the championship is becoming almost impossible to get promoted for clubs without parachute payments. Even if West Brom or Norwich don’t go up this year they will next season. Look how good Brentford were over five seasons yet still had to go up via the playoffs. With FFP you can’t do a Wolves and buy promotion any more.

You can if you get it right first time. Sadly when Reading tried it the managers and their recruitment policies were, quite frankly, utterly clueless.
