tidus_mi2 Huddersfield look a bit shit right now. Might get a bit of revenge enjoyment out of pushing them towards relegation, probably not though.

Nothing against Huddersfield but I was pleased to see they lost as most of the others at the bottom won.

7 matches left, we have a seven point cushion, with Brentford on Tuesday.

If if if.

Does anyone think this team is really, really likely to go on a 6 game losing streak? When was the last time a Reading side did that?

By 14th July more chance of us having 60+ points than 49. Most likely about 56 or 57.

Yeah thinking about relegations is ridiculous and I think a lot of people are doing it just so it gives them something to talk about in what is a season of lower midtable mediocrity.

I don't think we'll get relegated but I'm sure if we do Ian and Notts will know exactly who to blame.

I hope I am not "on the list" of those who are apparently suggesting (post-break) we could get relegated.

I merely posted a correction that if current bottom-club Barnsley, with 38 points from 39 games AND making a fight of it, are on target for 45 points or more (just getting a point a game here on in gives them 45)...

Then that suggests it's more than reasonable the third-bottom side might go down with 50 or so points.

It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that club will be Reading FC

Without factoring in six-pointers, the current bottom five, on their 39-game average will get

20 39 -08 43 51+ (50.78) Stoke
21 39 -15 42 50+ (49.58) Hull
22 39 -17 42 50+ (49.58) Huddersfield
23 39 -27 39 46+ (46.00) Luton
24 39 -19 38 45+ (45.00) Barnsley

If these clubs continue to average a point a game but pull off one shock win, 52 could easily be third-bottom

CURRENT FORM for the Bottom Five

10 Points from 6 = Barnsley are currently 6th in the form table with 10 points from their last six games
09 Points from 6 = Stoke are currently 7th in the form table with 9 points from their last six games
09 Points from 6 = Luton are currently 9th in the form table with 9 points from their last six games

06 Points from 6 = Huddersfield

Only Hull (one point from 6 gams) are a basket-case, any of the top three above could easily get to safety*

* Haven't checked how if/when these teams play each other.

But you are all assuming ALL those clubs will maintain their current season average. Extremely unlikely as these clubs are there for a reason...and we have an additional point with goal diff so are already effectively on 50.

Don't really see how form in 4 games three months ago can really tell you anything about how the rest of this season will pan out.

Would expect Barnsley and Luton to put up strong fights while Hull and Huddersfield look very dodgy. TBH I’d expect the 3 relegated clubs to come from those 4 and if Reading can win one of the 2 games they have v Luton or Huddersfield then that definitely will be home and hosed.

Not "assuming" anything.

But the fact is, three of those clubs (10/9/9 points from 6 games)
are doing BETTER than their season average.

Only Hull have really imploded.

In all honesty, we will need one win to be safe, that would then mean the bottom four would need to win 4 or 5 of their remaining seven games which ain't gonna happen especially if you factor in games against each other at the bottom.
We were in a far greater pickle this time last season and escaped relitivly easily.
We should finish around the mid to high 50 points which is good progress on last seasons efforts.

Also, if we do happen to get over the line pretty soonish i think it be of benefit to trim the squad much sooner rather than later and see what some of the fringe players have to offer. Especially the likes of Holsgrove, Holmes, Osho, Masika etc....

As I understand it we cannot now play any young players outside the squad of 29 because either they were on loan and so are not allowed to play for RFC this season or they were furloughed. So Holsgrove and Holmes cannot play but Osho and Masika (as part of the 29) can.

Thanks for clearing that up Andrew1957, i guess 29 is more than enough to play with.

Got 3 points from 8 games in 2018/19 season if that helps.
