NathStPaul Don't mind Sunderland coming back into the Championship, no real issue with them as a club.

Feel for Gareth Ainsworth, he deserves to be managing in the Championship.

He didn’t deserve to last time and he certainly doesn’t deserve to this. He needs to finish top 2 or finish 3-6 then win the playoffs to deserve it.

Wycombe were robbed last season. Derby should have been deducted points last season. Ironically we were the ones to benefit from Derby's belated points deduction.

Ironic given the way they managed to get promoted ! Poetic justice perhaps ?

I realise it’s an unpopular take but frankly if Ainsworth hadn’t given it the whole “ we’re little Wycombe isn’t it amazing we are in the championship” line , then they might have made the most of the momentum from their fluke ( by the very definition of the word) promotion.

They showed more than enough in the second half of the season to suggest they could stay up regardless of the Derby situation. They just started with an inferiority complex and that’s down to the manager .

Can’t argue he’s done a good job there but I’m not buying the whole “ deserves to be in the championship” stuff. He was in it , then couldn’t keep his team up .

From the outside it looks as though he has done brilliantly to keep Wycombe competitive with a rag bag collection of has-beens (including 2 crocks from Reading) and free transfers without spending any money .

What we probably will never know is how he and Dyche and so on would get on managing a team where there is money to spend-would they be successful and would they play football that is more easy on the eye?
Even Allardyce had that period at Bolton with ageing classy players when they were great to watch but , for whatever reasons, it didn't happen with his other managerial appointments.

tidus_mi2 Welcome Burnley as our final rival for 2022/23

Riveting fixture for us next season.

Don't see Burnley coming back up any time soon, going to have to sell all their better players.

Well, we still await confirmation of one rival next Sunday.

Burnley are screwed. Apparently massive debt repayment now due as a result of the leveraged buy out. Reported as anywhere between 65 and 105m.

They have a £65M loan from an American company that - as they have been relegated - have to pay the bulk of it back THIS YEAR, with the rest by the end of next season.

That wipes out pretty well most of their 1st Years Parachute money, and they will have to sell players they didn't want to lose. (Tarkowski has already said he is leaving, whilst a number of players - including one Mr Vydra - are out of contract).

That’s really shit for Burnley tbh. They were a well run club until the takeover - what has gone on there? They’ve hardly blown the lot on signings - in fact I can’t see a player they’ve bought for anything about 10m there but maybe wrong

If they really do have to pay back 100m quid and with the number of players they have out of contract - again don’t see a lot they can sell - they’ll struggle to go back up

The new owners purchased the club using a leveraged buyout - similar in the way the Glazers bought Manchester United. In order to get the funds they had to tie this to future earnings, naturally if they were still in the PL that would be no issue at all but the lenders know if they remain outside the PL for any period of time, there is a major risk to ever getting their money back hence the clause that if they dropped out they would be liable for a large amount, 65m, relatively quickly.

It does look like it is not due right now, but by the end of the "debt period" which can best be described as the end of the season. So they really have to go up next year or they are in major strife.

They have Pope, McNeil and Cornet who are all sellable assets, reckon they'd get near £65m for those three alone. With the first parachute payment on top of that I would imagine they would be ok when it came to the first payment. It of course screws them for the future though, can see them being a Preston North End for years to come.

Yep good shout on this 3. Cornet sounds like he has a 17.5m release clause, McNeill and Pope are decent players

Will see them through next year but doesn’t leave them with a lot of quality

They'll struggle to come straight back up for sure but I think they'll see the first Championship season as their best chance of coming up, would imagine they'll still be able to pay a decent wage so they'll have their pick of freebies and decent loan players. If they don't come up in 2022/23 I think they'll end up in the Championship abyss zone along with us, PNE and Bristol City.
