On a slightly positive (for ex players) note, didn’t Lawrie Sanchez mastermind the Fulham escape?

Went to Barnet, helped saved them from relegation then they struggled the next year and was fired.

Last job he had was in Greece I think, where despite getting relegated with a pretty small club was well liked and he quit rather than being fired. IIRC he thought Greek league football was a bit corrupt.

Had a chance to look it up. It was Sanchez, Chris Coleman was sacked in the March and Sanchez came in and turned the results around. Didn’t last though and Lawrie was sacked the following Xmas after a poor start to the next season.

For the record Sanchez was last seen in the Greek Super League in 2014 but he quit over issues he had with the way that league was run.

You've got your season's mixed up by the looks of things

Sanchez took over in 06/07 from Coleman but left in December '07 to be replaced by Hodgson.

Probably getting confused between seasons. 06/07 season you could say Sanchez saved them from relegation (although I have my doubts he did any better than Coleman would have done, if they'd stuck with him). Reward was a fat 3-year contract, and he lasted less than half a season of it. Quite Reading-like, in recent years.

With Derby beating Muff, no one in the Football League is currently on 106 pace right now.

They were terrible. Would love them to implode. Just watch the EFL pounce on them. Their last season on para payments and they will come under close scrutiny.

Muff were very ordinary against us. Not convinced they will be top two.

Don't teams get 4 years parachute parachute?

Unless it’s changed in the last season or so it’s either 2 years or 3 years of payments depending on the number of consecutive seasons in the PL before relegation. Which basically means if a club gets promotion to the PL but gets immediately relegated it will get 2 years worth of parachute payments whereas clubs who have survived at least one season in the PL will get 3 years.

Therefore this season Sheffield United will get 3 years of parachute payments but Fulham and WBA will only get 2 years worth.

From the previous year’s relegation from the PL Watford and Norwich went straight back up leaving just Bournemouth which is now in the 2nd year of the 3 years for which it will get payments.

Clubs relegated from the Premier League receive a percentage of the broadcasting rights each Premier League club receives. This percentage drops progressively over a three-year period – 55% in the first year, 45% in year two and, if the club was in the Premier League for more than one season before relegation, 20% in the third year. In the third year a relegated club will get a set 20% of the broadcasting rights value. Recently this value has been £40m, £35m and £15m respectively.

This season has seen Stoke and Swansea both lose parachute payments after 3 years since being relegated and also Cardiff City after the 2 years since its demotion. The only other club to be receiving payments this season is Huddersfield Town which is in its third and final year.

In addition to this ALL the clubs NOT eligible for parachute payments in the FL get a small share of 20% of the PL broadcast rights each season. These are called solidarity payments. Clubs in Division 2/Championship get 30% of the 20%, clubs in Divison 3/League 1 get 4.5% and clubs in Divison 4/League 2 get 3%. I think this is currently working out at around £4.5m per club in the Championship, £700k per club in League 1 and £475k per club in League 2.

Lastly, unless it’s changed recently, all FL clubs receive a basic award payment from the FL which in the Championship is about £2.3m. Clubs relegated from the Championship receive a parachute payment worth 11.1% of the Championship basic award payment for 1 season only. Clubs in League 1 get a smaller basic award payment and clubs in league 2 smaller still. Clubs relegated from League 1 get one parachute payment valued at 12.6% of the League 1 payment while clubs relegated from the FL get 100% of the League 2 basic award payment for 1 season and then 50% of that basic award payment in their second season outside the FL.

In all cases clubs which are promoted within a cycle of receiving parachute payments immediately cease receiving any further parachute payments that maybe due.
