james15 Faye Bryson is playing well in defence for us so far this season. We just keep shipping goals & it is a real issue. I hope we can turn things around against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Even if we stop shipping goals we're not going to pick up wins whilst we fail to score in every single game. If we presented more of a threat going forwards the defence would be under less pressure. it's very difficult to be continually 'defending nil'.

Another poor performance and/or failure to pick up 3 points on Sunday must surely bring a change of management a lot nearer.

Problem is Kelly is Reading through and through so not sure what the appetite would be for change even if we lost the next couple of winnable games.

Also, I can't recall ever hearing of a coach in the WSL being sacked but stand to be corrected on that

Arsenal sacked their manager about 3 years ago.

A fair number seem to quit though although they do tend to re-emege in more lucrative jobs.

What I find interesting is that the WSL wants to be the biggest in the world? And yet when you look at the championship you have teams like Durham, Lewis and London Lioness. Only Liverpool former winners are the only team of note. Where are Wolves, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton all bigger fan bases and have wealthy owners, yet have no interest in the woman’s game despite more exposure and sponsorship.

I think its good that clubs like Lewes and Durham are there. They take the women's same more seriously and are there on merit unlike some clubs who get parachuted into the league system the moment they are formed because their parent club is big in the men's game. Do you want an organic, self sustaining league or one that is bankrolled by TV money and increasingly becomes a closed shop of who has the richest backers?

Doncaster Belles, one of the biggest teams in women's football historically got shat on by the WSL in a move described as "morally scandalous" by the Arsenal manager, just to let a "bigger" club in.

IIRC, another successful and well run women's team, Lincoln City, got moved franchise style to Notts County and were out of business within 3 years.

Pretty much spot on with all of that.

While it would be a bit presumptuous to say so, they really need to be targetting a win here, at least a better performance. Villa may have a good record of 2-1-1 but they have arguably had a far kinder set of opening fixtures.

To win we need to score a goal- so that must be the top priority today followed by a clean sheet :D

Maybe this is just their level and unless we get to the Premier League and decide to aid them with more funding, there's not really a lot of room for progress

Well the cup semifinal loss will haunt her for ever. We should have won that game easy. Won’t get a better chance than that again.

No one really knows what level of funding they get currently but, given some of the signings we have been able to make over the past seasons, I suspect it's already reasonably generous and probably better that some of the other teams in the league.

Royals and Racers F-T 3-0

Much better performance and the result to go with it. Shame they allowed Deanna Cooper to carry on playing over the last ten minutes or so, given the score and the fact she may well have made her injury worse during that time.

4 weeks before next WSL fixture so she should be ok

Fingers crossed although I assume they want to progress in the cup so would have liked her available for that too. Seemed an unnecessary risk to take given she picked up an injury in the previous game, appeared to have an issue with her knee the first time she went down today and then her calf. Could easily have worsened that injury (ies). Sometimes managers and coaches have to override the wishes of a player who wants to continue.
