I like they included a picture of Feds and his unique kicking style, he always managed to get a lot of distance and power with his way of kicking.

Not overly surprised, tbh.

He may as well retire.

I bet the opposition have certain qualities

I saw that their top scorer in 2020 had 3 goals.
Three goals. Top scorer. In a season.

Wonder if in a couple of seasons we will see:

Former Reading defender and now Bayern Munich player Omar Richards is eyeing a return to England with several Championship clubs set to be sounded out between now and the end of the season

Or do we think it will pan out better for Omar?

It could well be the same for Omar, but I think he has showed more than Loader did in the first team (obviously totally different positions) and wouldn't be surprised for him to get a move to a Premier League side if it doesn't work out in Germany for him.

Also, I still haven't seen any actual confirmation on this Omar Richards move... Would've thought an announcement would've been made if it was a done deal?

Would/should Reading be interested?

Leave it out, it’s only because the opposition are sitting in deep, not making it easy for them

Article of Bowen criticising aspects of Puscas’ signing

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/mark- ... ge-puscas/

I don’t think his overall assessment of him is particularly wrong

All part of a larger podcast (40 minutes long) for anyone interested, covers his appointment here and his departure amongst other things

Said not enough diligence was done on Puscas before signing him, well he was director of football at the time....

He also claims he laid the foundations for this season's success, from what I remember the football under him (with largely the same players) was awful, particularly after the covid break, and anyway who exactly was signed on his watch? I wouldn't even give him credit for Laurent as he'd been on our watch list for ages.

Was an interesting interview. Sounds as if he was involved in the Joao signing for how much he praised him.

Also said he told Richards he would be 1st choice this season; so why wasn’t his contract sorted when he was in charge?

Well you've marked yourself as completely biased and lacking in any objectivity then.

He signed Laurent. He'd been at the club for over a year at that point and it was made clear at the time Bowen was a key factor in signing him.

The football was fine under Bowen, he improved us a lot, and yes we struggled under Covid return, but so did a lot of teams. Obviously he laid the ground work, Pauno brought in very few players and you don't go from shit to an 8 game hotstreak with a day and a half's coaching.

The article also makes it fairly clear that Bowen was instructed to go out and make Puscas a Reading player. Not scout him, not assess whether he was the right pick, just get him. So it doesn't matter if he was DoF, a technical consultant or manager. The owners gave him an instruction.

Another snippet seen on Twitter from the Bowen interview is that Liam Moore was going to be sold. Not Bowen's decision but for financial reasons. How come Moore never left then?

Moore spoke about that on the BBC Berks podcast a few weeks ago. He basically said that Pauno decided to keep him.

Agree with pretty much all of that, although I don't think the style of play was great - his work certainly shouldn't be forgotten about that though, as you say provided the building blocks

Only listened to snippets but Bowen was fairly open and revealing. He mentioned that one of the managers shortlisted when Gomes was sacked is now managing in the Championship and another is doing a lot of punditry work - would assume the first one was Hughton

That doesn't tell the whole story. Have you seen their possession stats?

Seems unlikely, on the face of it, that a decision Bowen said was nothing to do with him as manager could be overruled by another manager straight away. Unless they really, really, wanted Pauno, and therefore promised more autonomy.

Possibly more related to Nigel Howe being replaced around the same time, with the new man in allowing more financial leeway?

I get that Puscas has not been an unqualified success, but I wouldn’t call him a failure in the way the interview suggests he is.
