Franchise FC Been worried about that for a few weeks.

They only have to drop 9 in total, but are stubbornly stuck on 2.
SHIRLEY NOT

I’d leave the PL out of things as teams there play 8 league games less so it’s not a true comparison as technically their 106 point equivalent is probably somewhere in the high 80s

Umm... if Liverpool get 106 points in less games then it's a bigger achievement, surely?

Yes of course but in terms of the ppg that 106 brings from the number of games played you’ll probably find that both City and Liverpool smashed it last season.

Yep. In a 46 game season, Man City would have got 120 points and Liverpool 119.

It is a FL record but given that City would have needed 8 more points and Liverpool 9 to beat it - they would have comfortably done so. That is why it an English Football League record and not really an English record.

One of Chelsea's titles also broke the ppg of 106

I thought it was pretty clear I meant broke the points per game of the 106 record, personally.

Championship - WBA can get 110
League One - Rotherham, Wycombe, Ipswich and Coventry can all get 107
League Two - Swindon and Exeter can get 110

Seems likely that most, if not all, of these will drop out by the end of January.

However, Liverpool ..........
Can still get 112 and don’t look like dropping anything at all.
Best we can hope for is for the PL title to be sorted so early that Liverpool can concentrate on retaining the Champions League, and play the reserves in the PL. As long as it’s not against Everton it’ll provide an opportunity

If Liverpool have a chance of getting a PL record that will basically never be beaten then I think they will go for that over Champions League.

Difficult to see this Liverpool team losing a single league game this season, a solitary defeat in the last 57 makes them the best top flight team in history IMO.
The real invincibles if the pull it off.

I doubt they would even waste a thought on some niche 'record'. Another CL win just blows away an ultimately meaningless points record. There are no medals for setting 'records', we've not got '106' embroidered on our shirts.....

Football is all about bragging rights and these types of achievements. You may have noticed that our fans care more about the 106 record than they do about us winning the Simod Cup. And the 'Invincibles' are considered better than any English side that won a CL title.

Is that not just because it is a) more recent and b) the Simon Cup doesn't exist anymore, therefore those under 30, might not know what it is?

The Simon Cup was always a bag of dirt, a competition invented to fill the gap of European football at the time that no-one took seriously until it got to semi final stage, particularly for lower end Division 2 clubs like Reading, where it offered a rare chance to play at Wembley, when it still meant something to do so, before everything down to Hamster wrestling was played there to create ££££££ for the FA to try and plug the massive overspend on our national stadium....

I feel better for that.

One of my favourite quotes during that game. A friend turned to me when we went 2-1 up to say “Only 55 minutes to waste”

I remember it so well. We were 4-1 up with ages to go. The last 20 minutes were a bit pointless. Luton were finished and we strolled across the pitch. I will never forget the roars in the first half when Gilksey got the ball. Luton were terrified of him.
