Head and shoulders grew into our best player against Barnsley.

BUT Barnsley are awful and the easiest team we will play. We were lucky not to be 4-0 down before started stamping his authority on the game.

Start him agains a decent team and he won’t have the time to for his brilliant passes. He has his role but Ejaria + Swift our obvious first choice playing in front of Rino.

Barnsley 3 Hull 1
Barnsley 1 Reading 1
Barnsley 5 QPR 3

Last 3 results at Oakwell - Barnsley are not as bad as you would like to think they are.

Adam has been pretty damn good in the last couple of games - should have hit the target v Stoke though early in the 2nd half.

To be fair, Barnsley have only lost one home game since the start of October, and overall, they have a better home record than we do, albeit with two games more. Infact we’ve only got 1 more point from home games than away games so far this season and strangely enough we’ve drawn 5 games this season, all away from home. The problem with Wednesday was just how poor the goal we gave away and the whole performance

Adam, like O’Shea last year actually has been OK on the pitch but his lack of movement when defending is a concern and he does try the Hollywood a bit too much. He has surprised me though, in fairness to him and done better than what I and many others thought

Would still like to see a Pele, Rino, Swift, Ejaria diamond once Rino regains some form

Reading the first few pages of this thread is hilarious. Just goes to show 90% of us have absolutely no clue about football. I think we all deserve some humble pie.

Hopefully longer. Add him to the coaching team. Like O'Shea a good pro with a book of experience to call on.

To be fair, when you look at the evidence against the signing, such as his lack of playing time in recent years, the lack of depth we had in the midfield when the signing was made, the disastrous signing of Meyler 12 months ago etc, its not surprising people were confused and I wouldn’t necessarily say it makes one clueless

But he has been magnificent this last month, credit due

Very few of you come out well - especially the self proclaimed experts.

It was ludicrous to write him off before a ball had even been kicked, and history tells us we tend to do quite well with players in the twilight of their career. Usual faux outrage from Reading fans.

U wot m8?

URZZZZZZZZ Jason Roberts was 34 when he signed for us and that didn’t turn out badly. Happy to see how this goes.

Old Man Andrews I will give any new signing a chance, it's the right thing to do but I have so much pessimism towards this one. Seems like the signing of a club desperate for bodies who know a relegation scrap is ahead of them.

David Meyler, Stephen Quinn, Dave Edwards and now Charlie Adam. Not a single 30+ year old "has premier league experience" has done well for us. This is the epitome of tried, tested, failed.

Jason Roberts
Wayne Bridge
John Salako
Paul McShane (almost 30)
Ian Harte
Andy Griffin
Mikele Leigertwood (almost 30)

I’m not saying he is guaranteed to be a huge success, but it’s ludicrous to write him off before a ball has been kicked.

He has certainly exceeded expectations

Have to consider a few things though. He came in under Gomes, and was a complete waste of a wage for whatever reason - Not a Gomes player, and they clearly fell out. Until Gomes was sacked, he was every bit as bad as many expected.

Bowen was the perfect appointment for him. Knows him well, and he fits into the style. He has also benefitted from having Swift in absolutely outstanding form, and with Pele and Ovie not far behind. The amount of work they all put in allows Adam to do what he does best.

Its turned out well, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how good he still is, but the pieces have fallen into place for him

Read a recent article by Peter Crouch about Pogba's role at ManUtd and his ability to play killer passes and how that affects the players in front of him and PC then reflected on his time at Liverpool and at the difference having people like Steven Gerrard and Charlie Adam with their accuracy of passing can make to the movements of strikers as they know that if they get into a good position there's a very high chance they'll get a pass to feet in that position.

Was worse than being with 10 men today due to Adam. Could have been sent off (diving), lost the ball NINE times. Didn't press the ball. Awful.

End the experiment, play Pele/Rino/Swift.

That was very good by Millwall, but pathetic by Reading. :x

He's been very good recently but could probably do with a week off now. Was genuinely like watching a pub player today

Did have a suspicion that he’d struggle against a team like Millwall
but rightly so, he retained his place today and I hope he retains it next game

However, it could leave Bowen for thought that against certain teams, such as Millwall who play a higher tempo, that Adam may not be ideal, Leeds away being another example
