I think that will be the team unless Ejaria is preferred to Swift(but don’t tell Seth).

Great shout on Ejaria for Pele allowing Gomes to keep Swift in an ACM role.

A new formation? makes sense that we played it at Wycombe then. Hopefully it wont be too disruptive to the work that had been done pre season etc.
Disciple and concentration must be at full come saturday then as we know a Warnock side will be extremely well drilled in there patterns of play.

What's that? Is someone questioning Swifts ability?? My Swiftysense was tingling.

Since when did we start releasing the line up more than an hour before a game?

Surely this gives the opposition a tactical advantage?

Right so Gomes wants to stick with 3 at the back. Paint me dubious right now but I'll give him time. With that in mind I would like to see:
--------------------Rafael
-------Moore--Morrison--Miazga
Yiadom------------------------------Richards
----------------Rino----Pele
---------------------Swift
---------------Meite---Joao

Virginia
Howe
McIntyre
Ejaria
Adam
Puscas
Novakovich

Barrett has been dicked over by this formation change. We have Swift, Olise, Ejaria and arguably Loader ahead of him in the AMC role. Poor guy.

I really don't like the look of that team one bit. Very little creativity or width. Lots of redundant defensive players. None of the centre backs are capable of playing the "Evans role" and stepping into midfield if we need to change formation.

What was wrong with the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 variants Gomes was using at the end of last season? We were pretty defensively compact while also being able to fit our attacking players in. We now have five central midfielders (plus the youngsters) so actually have the personnel to pull it off. Why change to a formation that forces us to stuff Swift, Loader, Barrett, Olise, Boye, Meite, Joao, Puscas, Baldock, and Novakovich into just three slots?

Assuming Seth has some source of info I haven't seen, I just don't get Gomes.

Pick a style last season and go with it. Seemingly sign players to make it work... at least in some areas, then quickly abandon it a game or three into the season.

I look at what he's doing and I don't see the strategy. Certainly not on the pitch so far either.

I thought he had a little niggle? But either way I'd rather play Ejaria centrally. Hes a known quantity and is quality.

Interveiw after Wycombe he said he would stick with it (or so it was reported)

Kinda scared with what Gomes will do against ‘diff. Change formation against someone going for set-piece goals?! Gulp.

For me echoes of last year when he hesitantly put in Kelly and Swift together..

But at the same time if he does nothing we’ll complain and say we’ve conceded 2 from set pieces (3 from crosses) without addressing it

Hound But at the same time if he does nothing we’ll complain and say we’ve conceded 2 from set pieces (3 from crosses) without addressing it

I'd say that's as much about sorting out the clusterfuck of how our defence is organised as it is about change personel or shape.

Having the extra height and strength of Morrison won't do a lick of good if we're still ball watching and letting people get free headers in our box because we can't mark or track runs.

Likewise, having an extra CB won't help a whole lot with our full backs leaving our wide channels totally exposed because they're never in our half, nor our midfielders inability to track runners into the box.

It certainly won't stop us putting ourselves under stupid pressure by fartarseing about with it in our own box from goal kicks.

Those are the three/four issues I think are most critical to us conceding fewer goals and they mostly apply regardless of whether we have two or three centre backs.

(Watch us get a clean sheet tomorrow now I've said that).
