2 world wars, 1 world cup
Ascotexgunner Sparky is a very decent manager and.....he is scary as well.
I remember watching Wales when he was manager and after an appalling first 45 against Belarus walked past me at half time. You wouldn't f*ck with him and Id have hated to have been one of the players. Second half....different story...came straight out and Johnny Hartson did the biz.

I don't get the hatred and slagging off he gets.
He got Fulham into the Europa league ffs.....
Three top 10 finishes with City in the PL when they were not that.
Got sh*tty Stoke to 9th in the PL.
Saved Southampton from relegation when they were really in the pooh!!!!
Yeah I know he got sacked the following season but to be fair to him the board pulled the rug from under him and offloaded any talent that team had that summer....
He has a good pedigree and if Houghton wasn't available I would take him like a shot.

Wondered if we could have a Wales Day as well

Thanks that's good to read. Ideally Gomes will have a short chance but if not and MH is our man then it's cheered me up a bit because I've not been too excited otherwise.

Cheers. a criticism of Gomes when he arrived (and its just my opinion) is that I don't think he was 100% focused. He never hid the fact that he would listen to offers from bigger clubs. I think he is a bit of a dreamer.
One thing is certain, you know what you get with Hughes. He will give it his all and he has a big point to prove.

Sutekh Just realised Tony Pulis is available....

We certainly wouldn't end the season in the relegation zone with him at the helm. It would just mean putting up with shithouse football. Depends what we want.

Thing is he’d probably do pretty well. 3 big lumps up front, Blackett&3Ms at the back

Not sure I’m ready for it though

If we had shithouse football til the end of the season and we finished mid table......I would take that.

Whoever it is, give the guy a chance.

Top priority is to stay in the Championship. So the new guy (whoever it is) will get my blessing and support, and I just hope that
he is the manager to keep us up.

How about Graeme Murty, had passion at the club, and did ok at Rangers until deposed for a "high profile " manager.

This is the philosophy we all need to have. No point in moaning about who it is. Moan at the end of the season if it hasn't worked, not when they step through the door.

....so based on that, why sack a manager after eleven games?

“moan at the end of the season” if he hasn’t improved things.....then sack him

The current hire and fire thing is one hell of a turn-off

riverroyal Statistics can make people look good and bad, Hughes has been good at places and bad.

Chris Hughton did well at Brighton before it all went badly wrong. In his last year (of four and a half at the club) he signed 9 players, broke the Brighton transfer record and was sacked after winning just 3 games in 24. That's an awful record.

Ainsworth or Parkinson could both be a good call or, knowing Reading, someone no one has ever heard of again.

Why would Parky be a good call? Have you seen Bolton or Bradford play over the last few years?

Took him years to get Bradford out of league 2 with a decent squad including Nakki Wells

Yes he was here 10 years but that was 20 years ago and that sort of loyalty, whilst it doesn't happen now, was far more common back then

Ian Royal is more ‘wanted’ and the better option here, than Parky tbf.

....and that’s probably not far from the truth

Well, our fans were moaning moving from 19th and 17th to 3rd so that’s unlikely

Someone somewhere suggested Jason Roberts.

I'd take a talisman with an astute #2

Yeah if this happens it's about the only appointment that will make me very angry. Bowen has absolutely no business managing Reading Football Club.

I tell you what. The silence from the players is deafening... has any player said anything since the news started to break yesterday. Or even prior too the sacking. Any quotes from the captain saying ‘ he’s the right man for the job we need to back him we as players are fully behind him’ . Has any single player over the last few weeks backed the manager publicly?

He had lost the dressing room.

Jaytee Have you seen Sparky's record at his last 2 clubs ? You have to be joking.

5 wins from 27 at Soton
71 from 200 at Stoke

Are you taking the piss? 71 from 200 is 36%.

Winning more than a third of our games, that's a massive improvement for us.

Gomes was at 23% (17% the last 18 odd games)
Clement was at about 21%.

36% would see us comfortably mid table.
