I’d have thought they could wait until January to announce the date then. If both us and Forest go out the cup in the 3rd round and have no league fixture on the next round of the cup, surely it would make more sense to play them then than on a Tuesday night

It could still be moved to then if both are out. No point arranging it for that Saturday when it’s probably most likely one or both sides will be in the 4th round.

Reading are now bound to draw Forest away in the cup 3rd or 4th round now.

4th round Saturday January 25th there are championship fixtures so Bristol City(we are playing) and Brentford(Forest playing) would both have to go through and us and forest both lose. long odds on all 4 coming up !

Am amazed it’s being delayed by that much tbh.

If the EFL had got their arse in gear, they could’ve arranged it for midweek next week, or the midweek after the next international week

It's not an EFL decision, it is made by both clubs.

The midweek after the next international break already has fixtures (we play Leeds) - so the first available midweek would have been 5th December - given December is an already packed schedule not surpised the clubs didn't want to play then when no-one else will be.

14th and 15th Jan is set aside for 3rd round replays - so the 21st is the first currently free date likely to have been acceptable to both clubs esp as they know they will most likely "only" have an FA Cup game on the Saturday or possibly even 10 days between games if they are out and scheduled opponents aren't.

We play Leeds on 26th...midweek after the international break is 19th/20th November. England play on the sat before, although presumably some of the other countries play on the Sunday/Monday. Probably a bit tight for players to return from international duty. But midweek next week would’ve worked

Yes I know Leeds are on the 26th as I honestly didn't think you would mean trying to fit the game in on the 19th or 20th when the last round of internationals takes place on the 19th. Pretty sure it wouldn't even be allowed under FIFA rules if the clubs wanted to play. Puscas for example plays in Spain on the 18th - so would either be unavailable or asked to play twice in 24/48 hours.

Yes it is feasible for the game to be played on the 5th or 6th as the week is free - logistically, I wouldn't know how feasible it would be to get everything together at such short notice - as mentioned, the clubs are responsible for arranging a new date in sync with the EFL so it is unlikely the clubs would want to reschedule so quickly.

Yea I wasn’t aware there were international games on 18th/19th. Think I’m living in the simple previous days where international games would be on a Saturday or Tuesday/Wednesday only. Now you get games all over the shop!
