Henley Royal 1 GK Sheppard RB Franklin LB Gernon CB Hunter CB Kromheer RW Knight CM Evers CM Elsey LM Meaker CF Brayson CF Scott Subs Van Der Kwaak Whitlock D Wood Bodin Mclaren Crawford Mass Sarr No Captain as it would not make any difference.

Beat me to it, was just reading the thread and was going to nominate van der Kwaak for the keeper slot, courtesy of that horrendous OG on the opening day of the season at Wrexham (possibly his league debut).

Am I the only one to remember Robert Fleck being awful?

Saw Keith Jones got a mention up the thread as well, he'd be in my side as well.

royal67 No mention of Mass Sarr yet.....? Surely he'd make the XI...?

He'll always have Luton 1998 to keep him out of such sides, despite his subsequent failings.

Nameless Surely only Jimmy Kebe would be a serious candidate fir both the worst and best XI’s ? Utterly useless to start with then suddenly achieved god like status.
I guess Blackman might be another butdid anyone think those 10 games were anything other than a complete blip in an otherwise extremely mediocre career....

Bobby Convey might get into both teams.

In which case you could probably also argue Sonko and Gorkss whose form plummeted after injury and promotion and relegation respectively.

Kitson and Little back on loan.

Etc etc.

Steve Blatherwick has to be the worst defender I've ever seen in a Reading shirt

Ooo, that's a good call.

Thinking about it, Colgan would be my GK. He was utterly inept - like so bad my ninety year od mother with her Weinstein-esque walker would be more mobile and kick further - on that fateful 'Taxi for Terry' night in the Cuckoo Lane End.

Guthrie was disappointing but he was far from the worst. Akpan on the other hand....

This is really difficult as I go back to 1970 and the fourth division days, when we finished 16th in 1972 and some of that side (Malcolm Swain and Martin James have been mentioned) played like they had signed from a Prospect Park Sunday morning side, but in fairness were probably paid peanuts. So maybe the fairest way would be on a value for money basis so then you'd have to include big money flops like Fae, Halford, Aluko, Mihaylov etc maybe even Hugh Cheetham a full back from Crewe who for a time was our most expensive signing and played only a handful of games.

And again loanees feature in a number of sides - some of whom were only here a month - a worst side including loanees must include Paul Lemon.

Sorry to say that any team that doesn't include Malcolm Swain has no credibility. Anyone who doesn't remember him is simply a newbie :D

How does no ones team include any of our current shit team or one from the last few years (other than Virgina)? Sone Aluko for a start no?

We all know that reading fc was only formed the first year we got to the prem.

Believe or not the utter shitcunts that we have in the squad at the moment are light years ahead of some of the players we had in the past. Not a single player in our current squad would make it into my 11. In fact probably no player in the last 20 years would make it into the 11. Neville Roach, Byron Glasgow I’m looking at you

Paul Bodin was so bad we didn’t appeal his sending off when the referee got the wrong person.

Michael Meaker is the worst player I've ever seen in a Reading shirt. A winger that could neither beat a man or cross a ball!
Made worse by the fact that he was the makeweight in the Simon Osborn transfer too.
With him out on the wing and Carl Asaba in the middle it's no wonder we went down.
Dark days indeed...

Got to be looked at in the context of transfer fees. So:

Craig Maskell. Record signing who was ok, but nowhere near as good as he should have been. And replaced Deano "Dean" Horrix I think so was always onto a loser.

Carl Asaba. Record signing. Wasn't terrible but he was no Jimmy Quinn.

Lee Nogan. Controversial? Record signing (I think?). Had a glorious 4 months than nearly took us to The Prem including several of the most memorable goals in our history. But, apart from that four months, he was pretty bog average.

Glasgow was starting to look a decent player before he decided to shove his career up his nose.

That was a farce, although I think it was more because we only had 2 fit centre backs so couldn’t afford a suspension for one of them.
Bizarrely the appeal would have been entirely justified anyway given Robbie Keane’s theatrics ....
