The 'they never played for Reading, did they?!' XI

Criteria - players of significance that the general footballing public would probably be surprised to learn had played for Reading.

All league match starters - no George Bests or Daley Thompsons friendly apps.

1, Jim Leighton
2. Nathan Ake
3. Wayne Bridge
4. Matt Upson
5. Martin Keown
6. Terry Hurlock
7. Ray Houghton
8. Royston Drenthe
9. Les Ferdinand
10. Steve Archibald
11. Michail Antonio

That's 9 internationals and 2 uncapped Englishmen. A stretch to say Drenthe actually played, I know.

Subs: Chris Woods, Graham Potter, Neil Webb, Robert Fleck, Bob Hazell.

I feel there a couple of good names missing ....

Good selection.

What about Yakubu, Chris Baird, or Ulises de la Cruz?

Could also put Shaka in there, to be honest as I know some West Ham fans who never knew he played for us

Michael O'Neill, Yakubu and Jason Roberts all good shouts.

Like the idea of 'The Ones That Got Away XI' - Charlie Austin, Jimmy Hill, Peter Osgood (allegedly), Mike Walker.

Matt Busby did play for Reading during the Second World War. He was probably stationed at Aldershot and therefore was eligible to play in league/cup games for any team he wanted, or was picked for, under wartime football rules. As Aldershot was not far away, there was likely to be quite a few more "famous" players turning out for us.

Has it been long ago enough for Premier League fans/pundits to forget Sigurdsson & Alex McCarthy played for us?
