Snowflake Royal Baldock's got a place depending on how we play. But not if we're going one up without a plan to shift to two upfront, whether it's 3-5-2 or 4-4-2. Unless maybe he's our answer to left wing, but that seems very unlikely.

Agree, not good value, and that will breed discontent as he's one of the higher earners.

Imagine being Meite - top scorer two years running and probably earning 5 - 10k a week less than a guy who doesn't always make the squad.

Decent age difference between them though and relative experience, if Meite keeps his performances up, I'd expect an improved contract to be offered which would take him level or above Baldock.

Also, if Meite's contract has a nice goal scoring bonus included, I am sure he has been comped to a satisfactory level

I can see someone coming in for Meite, ideally don't want to lose him as he has proven himself to be a very good player at Championship level. Can we resist a large bid? Doubtful.

Harder player to replace than someone like Swift so I think if an offer came in, they'd try and hold off until they had a replacement lined up. Would also say if he can keep the performance up next year, and even bigger offer could come in for him.

I said LIKE

I see. I think we should sign players like Watkins, Benrahma and Pereira. Not them obviously. Just players like them.

Of course we should. We need a goalscorer who can get a 20+ a season, and a creative and tricky winger.

WestYorksRoyal Baldock certainly sounds defiant. He can definitely add value to our squad, but he's not realistically worth his wage. I only way he'd leave is if someone else offers the security of a 2-3 year deal, which he may consider worth a pay cut.

We must be stuck with Aluko. Certainly won't get a fee for him.

But the point is we can't afford to pay people Baldock's wage. So upping Meite to give him parity just makes our situation worse.

11 players on 20k a week is £11m. That's two thirds our income on half our senior squad, none of the Academy and none of the staff.

Wouldn't be too surprised if Meite was on close to 20k now.

How do people know the ins and outs and bonuses of every player?

If we can get 7mill + for him with a swap maybe then I'm fine with that.

Although it doesn't seem to matter what player we get upfront, we could have Harry Kane upfront and he would score 8 a season.

You reckon Kane would get half the number of goals Meite has and2/3 what Puscas has ?

It was a joke. Because every player that comes to us and then goes to another team seems to remember how to score again.

According to the list that was published a couple of weeks back Meite is on 15K a week and Baldock 21.5K. Sounds about right bearing in mind Baldock was signed when the club were on a mad spending splurge.

The other players on that list over 20K a week were:

Moore 35K
Swift 25K
McCleary 20K
Gunter 21.5K
Mannone 20K
Cabral 20K

Which would explain why the club were so keen to offload McCleary and Gunter last summer and why most likely Swift and Moore will be off this one.

Can't believe we are paying someone called Cabral 20k a week, bloke never even plays for us.

Who do you think is a better goalie? Santana or Ramses?

So, season not quite ended and already it seems

  1. Gunter and McCleary definitely leaving
  2. Swift on verge of £3.5m deal to go to Sheff Utd (then watch out for a “lesser” midfielder going from another club to the PL for a shed load more at some point over the close season)
  3. Barrow gone to Korea for a reported £1.5m

https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/foot ... r-18626929

Got to be seen as a good start. Next I’d expect confirmation of Ejaria becoming a permanent signing and decisions on those out of contract;

Osho (got to offer a deal there)
Obita (probably will offer a deal)
    Blackett (expecting to be released)
Adam (have heard he is talking with the club on a new deal so could go either way).

Do not expect the loanees Boye, Pele or Miazga to be at Reading next season unless on loan again or some miracle income is found through selling others over the close season.

I'd say fair for Rafael and Meite given their importance to us; both free transfers too. But plenty in that list on way too much. I'd happily take £2m - £3m for Moore

Apparently the fact we need a goalscorer like Ollie Watkins and a creative, tricky playmaker like Said Benraima is worthy of an

Yes okay we will stick with Baldock who has scored half a goal all season

What a pollock

5 in 22 apps actually this season though when you convert those apps to minutes it’ll probably be better than the apparent 1 in 4.5 or so strike rate.

That is still shocking. For the amount of money he is on.

But keep giving me  for saying we need somebody who can score the most important thing in football. If somebody knowledgeable like Ian said that he wouldn't get . What a bell.

Baldock can still go a job for us and I'd be more than happy with him if only he was on half the wage.

Hypothetical question. Who would be happy to see Moore go if it meant Blackett signed a new contract?

I'd love to see Blackett stay. Cover at both CB and LB and a more than decent cross on him. Not sure he wants to stick around though and his wages are towards the top end. However, Covid may have limited his options.
