tmesis In all seriousness, how many people are going to watch a make-shift team deep in the bowels of the pyramid at the irredeemable craphole of Scours Lane?

With the exception of folded clubs (and FC United), has a single "fans' club" risen from their very modest start?

Yes, AFC Wimbledon.

When Wimbledon effectively ceased to exist, AFC Wimbledon were all intents and purposes the replacement for a folded club.

strap I was just texting the exact same thing to my lads. Amalgamate with Reading City, at least then we'd have a few players.
I'm against amalgamations of any kind.
Imagine if a big London club went to the wall and they decided to amalgamate with Reading FC? Suddenly we'd have all these outsiders in the stands cheering on "their club" and lose our own identity.

You either start a new club or you support another existing one.

A whole new league should be set up. One where the fans have a massive say in the club, where it's not all about money, where clubs have to abide by rule of ethics that states they work within their limits, without rules implemented like the FFP, but one which essentially works on trust, break the trust, get kicked out, simple as.

German football is run so much better, with the exception of clubs like RB Leipzig, other clubs are owned 50% by the fans, play a big part in the community and the like.

Can't we just merge with Oxford United and piggy back off their success? Maybe call the team Thames Royals or Valley Royals or something.

They started playing the ninth tier in 2002, They didn't just replace Wimbledon. MK Dons took there place.

Technically, yes, but the the club located in south London that Wimbledon fans followed ceased to exist, and a completely different club took their league position and players.

Virtually none of Wimbledon's fans went to watch the new club in MK, making it an entirely different scenario to fans setting up a "breakaway" club in protest at the running of an existing club.

100% agree, need to decide now if we set up a new club, or just go and support Reading Town/City. One comment saying the organisers of Reading City are chances, any other views?
If we went bust, I'd be surprised if less than 25% of season ticket holders were up for supporting a new team. Watching a good quality of good but having an afternoon out with mates and feeling a link to the town is the main event.

I am planning on going to watch Hungerford a couple of times this year once things open up.
I am Newbury based so suits me and wanted to watch some lower league stuff.
They have a player I have heard of this season in Ryan Seager aswell so at least I can shout on one player.

MK Dons took the league place and remaining players of Wimbledon while the fans formed a new club, A.F.C. Wimbledon, to replace the club that was “lost” and that club is now back in the FL. I believe that subsequently all the history and achievements of Wimbledon FC was transferred to A.F.C. Wimbledon.
