Mr Angry I also remember walking from the town station to Colchester's old ground in the drizzle for an FA Cup game when they were non-League....and of course we lost.

:x

Was that mid 60s and finished 1-0 ?, I was there, hitched a ride from Theale, grossly overcrowded.

2-1 defeat in 1990 or 1991. Only thing I can remember about the game is that George Friel made a rare start.

Yay! Aluko starts

Reading: Southwood, Araruna, Bristow, Moore (c), Morrison, Laurent, Olise, Aluko, McNulty, Baldock, João.
Subs: Andresson, Abbey, Samuels, Richards, Rinomhota, Tetek, Melvin-Lambert.

Colchester United: Gerken, Scarlett, Brammall, Eastman, Smith, Pell (c), Stevenson, Chilvers, Brown, Harriott, Poku.
Subs: Welch-Hayes, Senior, Sowumni, Marshall-Miranda, George, Hutchinson, McLeod.

Good to see Southwood getting a game, preumably Bristow is going to be left back. Even more academy players on the bench. Hoping McNulty steps up.

Strong Colchester team.

Am I right in thinking Meite is suspended?

Meite got a straight red in the last game of last season v Swansea, therefore is serving a 3 match ban. He'll also miss the trip to Derby and the home game v Barnsley.

QPR are the first "shock" of the round, losing 3-2 at Plymouth.

Colchester knocked out Spurs and Palace from last year's competition so are hardly going to be phased by a trip to Reading's semi reserve side.

Any clue what kind of formation is even possible with that line up?! 4-3-3?

Good to see Southwood getting a start, pleased to see him favoured over flappy Walker.

It’s very lightweight. Could be 4-3-3 with Aluko in midfield, or 4-4-2 with Baldock and Aluko on either flank.

Can't believe Aluko is involved. It makes me very sad.
