Snowball BTW, Barnsley working very hard, but one actual shot on goal

Pressing side tire second half

Our two full-backs best ATM. One goal-saving block from Rhino

Ejaria and Olise half-and-half, Swift missing so far

Joao really excellent at holding up, not so many chances to do it

They'd created by far the better chances and looked the more likely by some distance.

Not sure about that

I would be raging at the player. Such a dumb thing to do.

Ok, perhaps I saw it wrong. I didn’t think he’d pulled him back and that Joao threw himself into it. Willing to admit I may be wrong.

He grabs his left arm and tugged it. Joao might have made the most of it but it was certainly a foul.

NewCorkSeth Can anyone explain the rule? Thought last defender fouling has to be a red even if keeper would get there first no?

Last defender thing is punditry bullshit. It's got nothing to do with it.

It's about a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Yeah just googled it. Changed in 2016.

A foul on a running striker committed by the last man of the defence will no longer result in a direct red card and suspension, unless the foul is violent or consists in a hand-ball in the box. As long as the foul is judged to be an honest attempt at taking the ball, the defender will only be shown a yellow card.

Apparently. So yeah, pretty harsh.

Well it definitely wasn't that.

Old Man Andrews Half time.

Ian wants the manager, players, mascots, club shop workers and Golden Gamble ticket sellers sacked for the teams poor first half performance.

Didn't he say he wasn't supporting the team anymore and was boycotting the team and all their games?

That was a truly dismal half from us. Ok a tough game should have been expected but we really need to learn how to counter when teams press us. So many times we had 2 or 3 players running at us when we had the ball.

Quite fortunate with the red card. Need to play much better if we want to win. We just don't know how to attack teams when we are at home.

Thats what I was gonna say! Its, yet again, a badly worded law that leaves too much ambiguity.

Barnsley had 7 shots on goal in that half, 1 of which was on target and required Rafael to make a full(ish) stretch save.

We had none.

Saying Barnsley created the better chances and looked the more likely isn't negative, it's factual.

Old Man Andrews All of you idiots who have moaned for the entirety of the first half will now bask in the glory of our easy victory against 10 man Barnsley. The majority of you don't deserve to listen or watch the 2nd half.

Chill. I'm sure that the tactics will be addressed at half time. The opposition manager had us sussed though.

This is one of the worst first halves I've ever seen in terms of opinions in a match thread. You idiots being negative need to stop trying to appease Ian, he isn't someone you need to listen to. The fact is he is an utter disgrace and has been deeply offensive to the manager since he took over.

He isn't a supporter of the club

He didn't go to games prior to Covid

He wants the manager to fail

Yeah true. Tbf I was surprised he gave it. I’d have been pissed if that was a red for us in that situation.

Thats what I was gonna say! Its, yet again, a badly worded law that leaves too much ambiguity.

You want the actual laws, not sure that is.

SENDING-OFF OFFENCES

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
serious foul play
biting or spitting at someone
violent conduct
using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
receiving a second caution in the same match
entering the video operation room (VOR)
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.

DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs.

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

A size who have won four of its last eight games away, have beaten
Middlesbro and Forest this season, unlucky to lose to Luton (open goal missed)

A fair few of us were saying this will be tough.

Sure they pressed, but they would have tired. Can't press for 90 minutes.

And Joao a big threat draws a red card.

Perfect

He really is though. Since the manager took over Ian has been xenophobic towards him and mocked him, criticised him at opportunity. The posts are there, look for yourself.

I don’t think we will see too many halves of teams pressing us as recklessly as they did. Every time we had the ball they had 3 players sprinting to close us down. It’s not sustainable and if it works to get a goal you’re then relying on defending a lead absolutely knackered. Their high line is also why they’re now down to 10.

Disappointing that in the moments we had that little bit of time and space we oxf*rd it up with sloppy individual error *cough* swift *cough*.
