[quote="Old Man Andrews"]This is one of the worst first halves I've ever seen in terms of opinions in a match thread. You idiots being negative need to stop trying to appease Ian, he isn't someone you need to listen to. The fact is he is an utter disgrace and has been deeply offensive to the manager since he took over.

Thread Bomber.
This topic is not all about your opinions of Ian.

Maybe the luck that many fans seem to feel deserted us last season has swung our way.
We played Derby after their two very good players had just been sold and not replaced.
Now the ref sees a slight tug on Joao worthy of a red card.

Premier League here we come.

Zip You alright hun?

Clearly not. He needs to work on his bait if he wants to get a nibble for his jollies.

Barnsley had 7 shots on goal in that half, 1 of which was on target and required Rafael to make a full(ish) stretch save.

Well that's Irish. More simply, they had one shot which required saving. FACT

yuomi
We had none.

True but looked like we had a harsh offside when Swift was through

And Joao would have been through but for the foul (red card)

So they had one shot on target, we had what should/could have been two one-on-ones

No one wants the manager to fail. However I'm expecting him to hit the ground running and build on the platform from last season. Not send us backwards. Crowds are never going to return if the football isn't entertaining to watch.

CountryRoyal I don’t think we will see too many halves of teams pressing us as recklessly as they did. Every time we had the ball they had 3 players sprinting to close us down. It’s not sustainable and if it works to get a goal you’re then relying on defending a lead absolutely knackered. Their high line is also why they’re now down to 10.

Disappointing that in the moments we had that little bit of time and space we oxf*rd it up with sloppy individual error *cough* swift *cough*.

Snowflake Royal Equally wasn't that.

Thats what I was gonna say! Its, yet again, a badly worded law that leaves too much ambiguity.

You want the actual laws, not sure that is.

SENDING-OFF OFFENCES

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
serious foul play
biting or spitting at someone
violent conduct
using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
receiving a second caution in the same match
entering the video operation room (VOR)
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.

DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs.

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

So isn’t that saying it’s not a sending off as it was outside the box but it would have been if it had been in the box.

He isn't a supporter of the club

He didn't go to games prior to Covid

He wants the manager to fail

Agree - he won't be happy until Parky is manager here

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Barnsley get another sent off. A bit lucky Ritzmaier is still on.

Obviously good news we're against 10 and Barnsley have to change their plan

But in some respects it's a shame as we don't get to see how the side performs 11 v 11 for 90 minutes with that press and whether it can be sustained (almost certainly not at that level).

Have to wait for the next high / hard press side to see whether our game is good enough to do well against it. Shouldn't be a long wait though.

Obvs not beating Barnsley with a number advantage would not bode well at all.

Araruna has shown a couple of times that he has an uncommonly good ability to shepherd balls out of play. It’s a very minor skill but, hey, it’s something!

Yep. Well I’m sure after Cardiff watch this game they certainly won’t approach the game like Derby did

Nah that final bit is about if it's in the box and to avoid the 'double sanction' of a penalty and red card... basically covering how it being in the box differs.

Fair play Barnsley, still pressing hard, but just drawn it back to the half way line and no longer high.

Would rather praise our opponents than give credit to the team he claims to support.

Swift needs to come off. Just not in this game at all.

He’s probably going to score now I’ve said that..

Anyone watching with the Barnsley commentary? I know we complain about Tim & Mick but these 2 are utterly clueless. Apparently Leicester won the league in 2014 and Moore got a winners medal. Additionally Olise is actually called Ejaria and Ejaria is also called Ejaria. O and the ref hates Barnsley. Obviously.

Tell you what, when we're looking for a new manager in six months can we get Gerhardt Struber?
