WestYorksRoyal Pauno's call on how to replace Araruna, but agree Watson must be finished if he doesn't play. He's already 23 and if he can't get picked in these circumstances then he'll never make it.

strange one as when watson played he looked very good

Did he? I couldn't watch the Luton game but he played as a CM in a game we did poorly in by all accounts.

No Joao means a plan B is required for me. Got to switch it up because none of the other strikers can do it up top alone.

......................Cabral
Watson, Moore, Morrison, Richards
...Meite, Rinomhota, Laurent, Olise
...............Puscas, Baldock

Harsh on Ejaria, could maybe start Meite up top with Baldock instead and have Olise right and Ejaria left. Can't drop Olise, he's the set piece taker and one of our biggest sources of goals.

I'd probably go with the majority of that, but maybe look at bringing Holmes in at RB and swapping Ovie with Baldock and then playing Meite upfront with Puscas. Obviously you'd rather have a specialist RB playing, but at least Holmes has had some game time and should be up to speed, whereas Watson has only played that cup game.

Wouldn't play Puscas and Meite together up top. They're both big awkward guys with not great first touches. Do much the same thing but Meite has more pace IMO... Rather have Baldock telling one what to do.

I thought Holmes has looked good. But he's not a RB. Watson is. If he doesn't get this chance we may as well just pay up his contract and send him on his way.

Watson isn't good enough, Holmes is. Simple.

I’m not sure the issue is that Baldock and Puscas can’t play up front on their own - it’s that they need to be partnered with someone who can hold up the ball. Playing them together doesn’t necessarily solve the issue if neither of them can hold it up.

That said I’m much more positive about Puscas than some, I think his failings as a hold-up player are exaggerated. But I also think some of his strengths are exaggerated, he’s not as quick as people make out and he doesn’t have the movement either. Really we need to get the ball into his feet.

Lucas Joao will probably not play the next game but Eddie has implied he will he back in time for Middlesbrough away. https://twitter.com/eddierfc7/status/13 ... 29536?s=21

Makes sense. If it's a relatively straightforward dislocation no reason he should be out ages with quick good treatment.

Great news for us if true.

Good news indeed, obviously you want your best players fit all the time, but I think if there was a game he was going to miss, I am not too disappointed he is going to miss this one, seeing as I think we'd struggle to get anything from it anyway.

On the flip side, it probably gives Puscas a great opportunity to impress the new manager in a really tough game, if he can put in a performance.

Agree with all that. And fortunate to have an international break after the Watford game

Indeed, if there was a good time to get (what seems like) a minor injury, this is probably it.

Yup, he needs to stop making a habit of getting injured though

With my minor understanding of sports science, at least it was a contact injury. He fell awkwardly and his shoulder popped out; that can happen to any player no matter how fit.

A hamstring strain from a sprint, as he got last year, suggests his fitness is not being managed properly (no coincidence it came at the end of the festive schedule).

Clearly he is more injury prone than other players and we may need to rotate him if we get any stretches of 3 games in 7 days (or 4 in 10). But this shoulder injury is just one of those things.

yeah can't blame him on this one. Hacked down and landed badly. The fact he has recovered quickly if true is a good sign. Dodgy hamstring muscle injuries are definitely not good

Isn't it odd how, despite the realistic view of this upcoming game, most of us are excited about it regardless. Says a lot about the attitude of the supporters right now. This is a tough game but there is no doom and gloom and equally, no over reacting from our great start to the season. I really am enjoying this moment. Wish I could bottle it to save for the future.
