Piazon and Ola John

by Greatwesternline » 18 Nov 2020 14:44

Im a new father, and i've inevitably started listening to children's songs.

Music man came on just now and a big grin came across my face when i thought back to the Piazon Ola John song. In particular how it was sung at Fulham away, until we started losing and the Steve Clarke Blackman run went down the toilet.

What a song that was.

Remember being in the Eight Bells when it started. Good times.

Best I remember it was during the 4-3 win at Charlton later in the season; and was in a pub at London Bridge before the game full of Reading fans and it just started up big time.

That song was the best thing about that season. Shame the players were both utter trash.

Think that’s a bit harsh, especially on John. When I think of utter trash I think of Jordan not-up-to-Mutch and despite being played out of position Lewis moneyGrabban.

I know everyone was bad that day but I think Mutch’s performance in the 7-1 defeat to Norwich was one of the worst individual performances I’ve seen by a Reading player in a long time, IIRC he didn’t make another appearance for us after that one. Grabban got better as time went on, but was underwhelming

John was overrated here, poor end product but could do an OK job from the bench. Piazon was talented, but was too sulky and never really coped with the demands of Champ football

Good thread or not, congrats on being a new father mate. May you have a long and happy road ahead, although it will be difficult at times.

How are we rating Piazon and ola John vs Semedo and Esteves?

I think Semedo has the potential to be a Sidwell type player. I think Esteves is not ready for this level of football.

Well it ultimately ended badly but at 1 stage we were 2nd i believe. And an FA Cup QF too

Maybe we need a poll for the worst season in the last 10-15 years?!

Personally I’d go for the 17/18 season where we had a shit kit, had shit football under Stam, had a shit Chris Martin, and then had a shit manager-bounce with Clement. Although it was only marginally worse than 18/19
