From Despair To Where? Blackpool 0 Reading 4 in 1994.

Absolutely played them off the park. Got clapped off by the home fans.

Tranmere 1 Reading 3 PO Semi Final 1995. Total football.

Blackburn 3 Reading 3 2007. Last game of the season, party atmosphere and an end to end game.

Agreed on all of those.
I did list a number of games but lost the posting just now and can't be bothered to list again.

They were mainly memories of cup games when we were in Div 3 and the opposition in Div 1 and over the years there were quite a few.

From Despair To Where? The thing with the 4-3 over Plymouth, we were absolutely shite for 65 minutes. Great comeback yes but great game, no.

Remember that. 65 minutes 3-0 down and Plymouth cruising and then they gave away a penalty for 1-3. Even then it took another 20 minutes or so to equalise and then take the lead. Plymouth didn’t know what happened and had a player sent off in the last few minutes too.

The Wolves 2-1 thanks to “Gilkes time” was good, then there’s that 3-2 over WBA with all 3 goals in the last 10 minutes plus the delight of last year’s 1-1 at home with Forest.

Yeah, that was class. Could've won by 6 or 7 that day, totally dominant.

The Ipswich 1-1 and Forest 1-1 games were special in their own way because in both we thought we had lost at the death and then went up the other end and equalised.

Add Federici's last minute equaliser vs Cardiff to that too.

Wolves Elm Park.

1-0 down near the end.

-->

my boys picking the crowd up with a huge FSB chant that rung through to the end

-->

Archie scoring two at the death to win 2-1.

-->

years of "you've let us down again" and angry wolves fans.

You'll never beat the Southbank.

Everything else is a footnote.

Here's three that popped straight into my head...

Surprised no-one has mentioned Newport County 0, Reading 2 - this was the game that set a new record of a 12 match 100% record (beaten the following week with a win at Lincoln). I was in the away end behind the goal. At full time I was impressed at how the Newport fans clapped our team, then I realised that they were Reading fans who'd been let in to the home areas.

Bristol City 2, Reading 3, when we came back from 2 down with three late goals that all went to the keeper's right - Kermorgant and Kelly got them, I think.

How about Cambridge 2, Reading 2 in April 1976 - that point earned Reading their first promotion in 50 years!

Beating Coventry in the Simod Cup SemiFinal In 1988 was very special.
Beating The Sham 3-0 when they went down to nine men was brilliant especially as I had friends in the Away end who were hating it.

The Archie Lovell late show against Wolves was fab but it wasn’t much of a game.

Oh and Wales 1 Belgium 0 in the Euro Qualifiers on a damp, June evening in Cardiff was just sublime.

As far as Reading are concerned:

The Symod Cup final
Beating Wet Sham 6 nil
Beating Liverpool and that Harper goal.I was surrounded by Liverpool fans in work and I let them stew all day until I pounced.

Best game ever ? Beating the Germans five one must be up there.TBF Germany 1 Liverpool 5

Gooding interviewed afterwards about his tackle to cripple Gilkes....

"To be fair, we all knew what he could do and to be fair I had to make the challenge to be fair."

Every Reading fan
"Run it off the end of the pitch and cross into the Tilehurst End? Hardly worth such a cynical hack, Mick."

I have never been more pumped than when Archie scored the second.

For me the Simod semi against Coventry. The ground was rammed that night amazing atmosphere penalty shot out we were 2-0 down at one stage. Steve Francis saved two and Gilksy smashed the winner. Que utter euphoria hugging complete strangers pitch invasion. It may only have been the Simod cup but to us it was like the Champions League.
When you think about it what else can bring a town together like nights like that?

Difficult to pick a favourite as surprisingly there have been a few.

In no particular order

Play off semi final 3-0 at Cardiff
Simod Cup Final
FA Cup 1-0 win at Everton
The wins at West Ham and Southampton 2012
Newport away (Record game)
Blackburn away (Inflatables, last game of season )

Not sure why but the away games give me more enjoyment than the home games

It was a great celebration. I was jumping up and down like an idiot. Mrs Zip was in attendance for a very rare appearance at a Reading game and was politely clapping.

Maybe the real answer to this is Portsmouth 7 Reading 4?

There was also the 6-4 win at Exeter and the 6-4 loss at Spurs.

The Spurs game was nuts and might well have been the best of the lot. The wrong result, but possibly the best match we have ever been involved in.

Ant reason you’re leaving out Doncaster 7 Reading 5
3-2 after 10 minutes
And Kerry Dixon scoring 4 but losing

As I recall wasn’t the Spurs 5th goal a bit dodgy in that it was a penalty which was scored but allowed to stand despite Defoe being almost up to the penalty taker when the ball was kicked? Probably wouldn’t have made much difference as the kick would just have been retaken but all the same it may have been missed and seen Reading go onto get a point from the game.

By the way, the ref for that game is also the ref at Brentford on Saturday.
