The Next 6 Games

by royalp-we » 24 Jan 2021 15:10

Some huge games against teams around us coming up in the next few weeks. Moore, Yiadom, Araruna, Meite and Puscas all set to return - but on paper this looks set to be our toughest period of the season.

Bournemouth (H)
Stoke (A)
Brentford (H)
Millwall (H)
Bristol City (A)
Middlesbrough (H)

9 points from that lot and we’ll have done well.

Bournemouth, Stoke and Millwall on crap form. Bristol City bang average

Wouldn’t say it’s an especially hard run but obviously it’ll be challenging

Going for 12 points

I’ve gone for ten points too with wins against Bournemouth and Millwall and draws in the other four

Has there ever been a 6 game spell that wasn’t important?

They’re all important. But you need to get results against teams who are up there with us. 5 of the next 6 are against teams in the Top 10.

Does suggest we should have a run of decent fixtures at the back end of the season, so just need to stay in the mix over the next few games

Sadly not - Watford, Norwich & Swansea are 3 of last 4 or 5 I believe

Agree totally.
So far we have a fairly horrible record against the rest of the top teams - 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses against the other 5 teams in the top 6. If we want to be in the top 6, let alone the top 2, we need to be doing better.

Have all 3 in the last 6 games. The latter two in the last 3. Norwich is the last away trip of the season - possible by then of course that they could be up and/or we are confirmed in the play-offs.

Does mean that after Bournemouth and Brentford we don't play any of the other top 6 sides until then.

In many ways good to have three 6 pointers in the last six. Puts it in your hands and can apply some real pressure with good form at the right time.

If we can win 3 of the next 6 that should keep us in the play off places and would be a good return given the standard of the opposition.

Then we have a 9 game run against teams in mid table or lower and so it is that 9 game which will define our season - as a good run (say a repeat of the first half season when we won against 7 of these 9 sides) and we could already have qualified for the play offs before the final 6 games.

Also allows you to potentially get the upper hand on potential play-off rivals - as at least one of those 3 will be in that competition.

We can definitely beat Swansea at home with a fit side. Draw at Watford, lose to Norwich. Hopefully that's enough to get over the line given the run of fixtures before then.
