Hound need to get McIntyre signed up. Been vital to us since he came back in. Be a bit shit losing Olise, McIntyre and Richards -esp 2 on basic frees

Yep. Disappointing it hasn’t happened yet. He’s actually quite a stylish player but he also really knows how to get stuck in. He also deserves to remain in the side irrespective of those that recover from injury.

Was about to post the same.

He's impressed me so much not just his attitude which has always been good but his skill levels and awareness. He should feel very unlucky if he finds himself out of the team at the moment

windermereROYAL What`s Pauno done to his arm?

He was kicking around with the coaches at the end of a training session and apparently he tried a bicycle kick thinking he was in his twenties and not his forties !!! and fell on it.

Video available to watch on Berkshire live website.

Could it be that we can't offer contracts now because of FFP? Funny really, TTE on Twitter are reporting that the Dai's net worth has gone up to $26bn, but we can't afford to offer a young player a new contract. When do these constraints all end? The madness of 2017/18 is over 3 years ago now, and we've been making slow progress to get our finances in order for about 2 years now. Ironically, if we can't even offer these guys new contracts it's bad for our finances through lost transfer fees. It feels like a backwards dysfunction system, that did not stop us pissing money up the wall on a pile of shit but stops us rebuilding in a sensible manner.

Unfortunately we made a £30 million loss in 2018/19 albeit I believe the actual loss for FFP calculations was £11.75 million. So things remain very tight.
Even so I fully agree with your comment that FFP is going to make it almost impossible to offer decent contracts to existing young players who we could then lose for peanuts.

But is FFP not a rolling £39m loss over 3 years? Or is it now £52m over 4 years to allow for Covid? Either way, £11.75m is within that, and it has presumably come down since (even allowing for the Joao and Puscas fees, which have their expense spread across 4 - 5 years).

The massive year was 17/18, and that should be off the books now. Next season, 18/19 goes off the books too. We must be close to being out of the woods.

You would hope that as there has been no movement up until now that there is a date in the summer when the next 3 (or 4) year rolling window starts and at this point a host of contracts will be renewed and that the club will have already spoken to the players about this and have them lined up to sign at this point.

Would it be legal to issue a contract with staged rises built in?

ie Say to McIntyre, "We want to keep you but FFP will only let us pay you 5K a week in 2021-22. So we will give you a contract that goes, 5, 8, 10K..."

The numbers are just for illustration

This may well be the case but the additional cost of a new contract would only kick in when the contract does, it could be agreed, signed and announced now if they wanted. I would imagine the fact that we could still go up is complicating things a bit as there will be a difference between a PL and Champ contract.

All of which could be factored in to a contract .
The risk is if we don’t go up and there isn’t a signed deal then players may exercise their right to walk away.
Clubs higher up the league will be queueing up to talk to our youngsters. Celtic in particular will be rebuilding and McIntyre would be an obvious target.

Yes it’s £39 million over three years so 2017/18 and 2018/19 are years where we would have been in or around 26 million recorded losses for FFP perhaps even higher. The 2019/20 accounts should be due out soon at a time when we still had a bloated squad. Obvs covid means those accounts will be taken alongside the 20/21 figures and averaged out. So it’s very tight.

this may be exactly why there hasn't been any announcement - McIntyre may love this club as a supporter, but as a professional he has to look out for himself in what may be a short career.
He may not be actively looking to move, or there would be rumours of interested clubs, but nevertheless, even if the club has already laid a good contract on the table, with bonuses for promotion built in etc, he may have decided he's better off waiting to see if what he could get elsewhere if we don't go up.

Why would it not be legal ? I can’t imagine players who sign 4 and 5 year deals do so without building in pay rises ?
You could have a contract that said a player gets nothing for 3 years then a massive single payment on a stated day.
How it got dealt with for tax and FFP purposes would be a different thing.
Didn’t US sports teams get round wage restrictions by paying low monthly amounts and huge termination bonuses ?
