Zip
Hound He might consider a 3-4 year deal on less wages somewhere else now

Ovie is a very good all round champ midfielder. Sometimes focus too much on assists/goals - more to him than that

If we put him up for sale at 3.6m half the division would be keen to sign him

I think he’s worth more than that!!

Well that was in response to the question of if we’d expect to make a profit on him

We prob won’t because we won’t sell but if we did list him at that price there’s be a buyer

Hansi Flick: Hey Omar, how would you like to come join Bayern? *Potentially leaving in the Summer before Omar joins*

With the way German clubs are set up, I doubt Flick had much to do with the move. The fact that he has fallen out with the Sporting Director over transfers suggests deals such as Richards had very little to do with him.

Elm Park Kid This is why both the government and PL were so reluctant to give any money in terms of covid bailout to the Championship. Teams continued to spend, spend, spend, regardless of their income.

What could the majority do?

Take us for example, we made about 1 perm signing from L1.

The clubs are contractually obligated to pay the wages they've already agreed to. They can't just say to the players, "sorry everyone, 50% wage cut because we're in lockdown"

As you've said in other posts - there were players we could have sold, especially those with high wages, and we could have just not bought anyone in at all. The same could apply to every team in the league - if none of us strengthen our squads then it's all pretty much the same.

I was listening the Price of Football podcast today with Kieran Maguire, who is considered pretty much the authority in football finance. Was interested to hear him say that even if an owner was able to 'dump' £150m into a Championship club, he didn't think it was enough to guarantee promotion.

This is the context that I think a lot of fans just aren't grasping at the moment. The kind of money we're spending, although crazy at face value, is actually pretty normal for a promotion chasing team. And, yes, a lot of it is 'wasted' on players that don't turn out as well as you hope. It's like the concept of 'hedging your bets' on the stock market - you buy a basket of shares with an understanding that some of them are going to lose you money, but an expectation that overall you will make profit. This is how you have to see spending in football - you can't cherry pick and say "Well, if only we bought the 'good' players or avoided the expensive wage flops' then we wouldn't need to spend so much. That sort of thing is just built into the game.

Selling players - Swift and Loader, would have had a completely negligible effect on our overall wages. The combined fee would have covered about a quarter of our wage budget, and Swift's wages a fraction of that more.

Are Swift and Loader the only players we could have sold? Every million pound we saved would be a million pound less than we'd need for a bailout.

The league as a whole could have decided to just have a complete transfer ban to save money - but it didn't.

The only players we had any real interest in over the last couple of years.
