MATCHWATCH : Swansea City (h)

by Sutekh » 21 Apr 2021 21:46

When : Sunday 25th April 2021, 12 noon
Where : Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Season is now realistically over after yet another pathetic display and now Swansea are back in town looking for their annual 4-1 win. Well at least it doesn’t matter any more.

Even with a record of 2 wins from their last 8 games the jinx that is Swansea (no wins in the last 14 games for Reading) are likely to be too good especially given Reading’s likely blistering high tempo start to the game and outstanding home form.

Andre Ayew has been the star for Swansea with 15 goals from 40 appearances though Jamal Lowe follows close behind with 13 strikes from 39 starts so the forward line of the Swans is possibly the most lethal in the division.

Swansea do have a doubt over Andre Ayew so there might be some respite for Reading’s defence. For Reading Joao is still injured and Moore is probably doubtful but given the at best lacklustre performances that have been the norm recently I’d possibly look to put a couple more youngsters into the mix in readiness for next season.

Lastly another game on Sky and another chance to go for the 7th win from what will be 28 televised games.

Referee

Simon Hooper

Historically

Reading and Swansea have played each at all 4 levels of the Football/Premier League over 34 previous seasons. Therefore this is the 35th league game played at the Reading end of things and so far it’s 18 wins to Reading and 10 to Swansea though Reading have failed to win any of the last 5 league games played in the town.

How to follow the game

  1. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  2. Ring/text a mate for updates
  3. Sky
  4. Use an iFollow subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Now we have no chance of making the play offs, our game might just influence how Swansea go into the play offs.

Whilst top 6 looks unlikely now, still got a shot if Rotherham somehow beat Barnsley on Saturday. At least will give us a good indication by the time we play on Sunday

Would rather not see Ejaria who has contributed so very little since Christmas - even if we’re not blessed for options

Rafael

Yiadom
Holmes
Gibson
Richards

Laurent
Rinomhota
Swift
Olise

Baldock
Puscas/Meite

Southwood Esteves Dorsett Tetek Semedo Aluko
Ejaria Onen Puscas/Meite

This diamond formation has yielded 10 points from 5 games. It has its obvious flaws but not sure why it’s been overlooked so much recently

Admittedly not much point of playing Baldock if playoffs are gone - although you could also level that at Richards and Gibson

5-0 Swansea, one last embarrassment in front of the fans before we sell the team

This sort of comment is silly. We have been disappointing but let’s not overstate things. We remain a competitive side which has lost its way. Just like Swansea albeit they will limp into the play offs whilst we won’t.

Season isn't over despite what some are saying but the fat lady is warming up right now, could end on Sunday if we fail to win of course, we'll know what situation we're in by the time we play since Barnsley are playing on Saturday but considering the team's lacklustre effort in the past two "huge" games, I don't really have the confidence they will get a result.

It just has a feel of the players have given up on the play-offs at the very moment they should have been fighting their hardest and now it's all just faded away.

However, until it is mathematically done, I'll keep my hopes up.

Last game on sky, maybe they will leave us alone next term, anyone got a record of our results when`ve we`ve been on? (not red button) I`m sure it`s not great.

Dont be so ridiculous.

An excellent season whimpering into a decent season. You forgotten the last few years?

Just checked our record on sky this season.

HOME, W5 D1 L3

AWAY. W0 D3 L4.

OVERALL W5 D4 L7

5 wins in 16 so far, nothing to be proud of, don`t know what the attraction was.

I'm starting to think just keep Swift for next season tbh, like Bowen did with Joao last year. If he fcuks his hamstring again now and misses pre season, its a huge loss.

Would like to see Tetek though

Do you really think we'll put in a performance if Barnsley happen to lose on Saturday? The only way I can see our players turning up is if Barnsley win and there's nothing to play for. Our confidence is paper thin.

Until it's mathematically impossible, the manager can't blood kids.

He'd be slaughtered for it
