Hendo Possibly, but I think the window doesn't officially open/his contract doesn't officially run out until June 1st, so might be waiting until then.

But on the other hand, they have announced Upamecano already...

Different for OOC players? Although not sure if Upamecano is? Who knows?!

Upamecano is actually a transfer - they've agreed to buy him. (€42.5 million). But they're not buying Richards, so that may be why they are waiting till after his contract runs out.

Plenty of domestic deals for OOC players already being announced - thinking Collins to Cardiff, Malone and the Hull keeper to Millwall - would be surprised if it is a different rule for international deals.

May just be a decision by Bayern not to announce or it could be they can't/won't announce it until work permits etc are cleared - not sure on the work permit rules over here post Brexit but it may be they are having to put a specific case forward for him as he is English but not exactly a top end player - so could understand not making an announcement until the paperwork there is done - possible that that can't even start until he is no longer a Reading player.

Germany has no restrictions on foreign (non-EU) players.

If anything, Bayern should be less restricted about announcing Richards than British clubs about signings from other British clubs. The rules for international transfers are much more liberal than domestic transfers. Bayern could have approached Richards six months before his contract expired to sign a binding pre-contract, but Chelsea could only do so much closer to expiry (can’t remember if it is one or three months).

My best guess, assuming reports are accurate, is that it is about PR. Big signing from Leipzig arriving with his club’s blessing? Announce it, it’s good news. Small signing from Reading arriving without his club’s blessing? Not much to be gained from announcing it, might consider that the right thing to do is to try and minimise disruption at the “selling” club to avoid harming any goodwill later (for example, if they want to sign the next Olise).

Either way, he's definitely going to Bayern - he's joining them for pre-season training.

Saw that earlier and thought to myself - "Rodrigo Riquelme joined Reading for pre-season training but never actually signed for us". I wonder if Omar is going as a trialist and Bayern have first refusal on him but nothing has actually been signed? You would have though Richards would want it formally announced as it is such a prestigious move.

Heard that McIntyre has agreed a new deal with the club. The only thing holding it up is the agents fee

Ah lovely agents. Their fee holding up a deal fir a player who, checks notes, has been at the club since he was a kid.

It is seriously easy money sometimes.

That would be the agent that the player himself has selected, and is presumably happy with? I mean, yeah, agents are sucking money out of the game - but they are dong so with the full cooperation of the players they represent. McIntyre could presumably employ a solicitor for the legal bits, and leave the agent out of it - he has chosen not to.

Well yes but then any fee should come from him. The fact it apparently is holding up signing a deal suggests it will come from the club.

I thought the rules were changed age so ago that meant an agent representing a player had to be paid by the player, not the club.
Of course in practice the agent’s fee will come out of what the player gets from the club, but there’s shoukdn’t be a negotiation between club and agent over the agent’s fee. You would also hope that a properly advised player had agreed up front with an agent the scale of fees they were working for. It just should not be a factor influencing a contract between the club and the player !

Isn't that something similar to how Doyle did business?

I don't know how practical it would be - but I'd like to see the club have some form of fixed pay scale system. So that first team players of equivalent experience are just paid the same amount and bonuses used to increase the salary of those players who contribute the most. It would end the need for players to have agents as there's nothing to negotiate. It would also prevent us signing any more high-profile/wage players. Yeah, we've had a few occasions where it worked out (Roberts for 6 months), but also a lot where it didn't. Maybe it would be better to just take the temptation away.

Also, it could encourage better team spirit if everyone knows that they are being paid on the same scale, and encourage youth/reserve players to step up as the pay rise would be guaranteed in their contract.

Would lead to us signing no players though.
And why would you pay based on experience rather than ability ? Surely you pay your best players the most ?

Yep, never had an agent, with us anyway.

Yeah, I don't know if it would work in reality. But the idea is that you set the scale so that you're paying average Championship wages to everyone, so you'd still be able to sign the majority of players.

It would be a change in mentality - that everyone who is stepping on the pitch for Reading every game is valued the same way. It would quickly lead to a squad of equal talent, meaning that we're not reliant on any one player being good or not bad. It would be a truly collective effort.

Reading have just announced new main shirt sponsors - Select Car Leasing:

Hopefully this will bring an injection of cash and perhaps some of this will be spend on contract renewals/new players

Presumably the amounts will be similar, or maybe even lower to what Carabao were paying - given that was no doubt a 'sweetheart' deal to get round FFP.

In the article it says it is a record breaking commercial deal, so maybe not.
