Zip Azeez is 20. Is there any reason why is only on a one year deal?

Simple, we haven't learned any lessons at all from Olise, Richards and the lad who went to Porto (Brain Fart, forgot his name lol)

If there was ever a time we needed a "Director of Football" now is that time!!

"Danny Loader" thats the lad :D

I just did a google on Danny Loader and he scored 8 goals in 32 appearances for Porto B team. Would anyone take him back on loan right now?

Just one assist though.

Those same lessons also give us Ryan East, Tennai Watson and Sam Smith though. Given big 3 year deals after a handful of appearances and end up being a huge waste of money. Definitely not what we want in our current circumstance and having finally got rid of nearly all the dead wood

What we do need to do is quickly identify if he can do it at champ level and then extend if he looks like he can

By then it’s too late as other teams will start circling and before you know it he will be refusing to sign a new deal and leave on a free next May.We have to do better at identifying the stars of tomorrow and doing what we have done with Andresson and give them a three year deal before they make the grade in the Championship. It might be hit and miss but we need to be quicker off the mark

Because to this point he has done the square root of naff all at first team level and finances are very tight, hence most players in his position were given one year deals this summer.

It may well be that the deal has a clause in it to extend it automatically if he appears in x games or meets some other criteria.

Remember Morrison joined on a reported 2 year deal that turned out in all reality to be a 3 year deal as conditions for extension were met, so the announced contract and the terms of it could well be very different.

How about because we learnt lessons from handing out long contracts to East and Watson?

You can't just sign up every youth player with potential to a 3 / 4 year contract because only a handful make it, and it hard to tell which ones it will be.

He's not even played a competitive game for the club yet.

Yeah can we not get too excited yet? I think this is a season, more than ever before, to be patient and calm on all fronts. We have to protect the young players and keep the pressure off of them. It would appear Azeez is going to play a fairly large part for us so lets keep the pressure off of him a bit and let him play. A big new multi year contract puts a huge amount of pressure on him and raises expectations, no way that wouldn't affect him.

Give it a couple of months before we talk about new contracts, where we will end up come the end of the season. Think Reading supporters just need to chill out a bit on all fronts.

Technically he has, he came on as a late sub for Josh Laurent v Sheffield Wednesday.

I think we have actually got it wrong and should be offering more 3/4 year contracts to youth players (That show talent and are training with the first team squad). They will not be expensive contracts the risk is less. It is better than throwing 3/4 year contracts at players coming towards the end of there career Meyler, Aluko, Baldock, Edwards, Popa all spring to mind on 20k plus a week and excessively long contracts. It should be a natural progression. If they show talent at 18/19 years old offer them a 3/4 year contract on upto 3k per week. If they don't make the cut at 22/23 offload them or offer them a senior contract up to 12k per week dependant on there rank within the team and sign them for another 3/4 years. and so on. once they get over 28 years old 2 year rolling contract for as long as they play a part. This is safer and they never leave for nothing. it is just good business. Then if they wish to move on and we would rather keep them atleast we get a fee to reinvest. 3-4 graduates a year would be acceptable in this model.

I just did a google on Danny Loader and he scored 8 goals in 32 appearances for Porto B team. Would anyone take him back on loan right now?

Unless I saw the makeup of the goals......no.
For all we know the player(s) that has created the goals for him maybe the better option.

Moore is at Bearwood today so might feature against Palace

The isolating trio of McIntyre, Holmes and Puscas should be available to play tomorrow too.

Already posted in the "On the Box" thread but tomorrow's match is on Palace TV for £4.99:

Full away end should make for a good atmosphere today with Palace in town.

They’re going to throttle us but it’ll be a good run out for the team. Will be interesting to see if Pauno goes with 2 up top - although unlikely with the lack of quality back up.

Kadeem Harris playing as a trialist today.

Impressed me in games against us in the past, wouldn't be against signing him.

Would bring us some pace and width if I'm thinking of the right guy.

Didn't he run us ragged for Wednesday on the opening day q couple of years ago?

Played on the left?

Not hugely prolific, 9 goals and 13 assists in 151 appearances.

But gives us something different and takes some pressure off Ovie.
