Injury watch 2021/22

by morganb » 30 Jun 2021 20:37

Yakou Meite has confirmed via social media that he is set to be out for several months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury

https://mobile.twitter.com/Yaks75/statu ... 3801865222

[As a result (?), Reading have called George Puscas back at the last minute after he was initially included in Romania’s Olympic squad.]

That is grim news. I doubt very much we will see him this side of Christmas and maybe not at all next season. These knee injuries can take two years and several surgeries to sort out. We have a paper thin squad as it is.

Fukking hell.

ACL - minimum 9 months - he’s out for season. FFS.

Well next season just got that little bit tougher.

Going to need to do some very smart business in the next few weeks.

Yep. Two Welsh rugby internationals Ellis Jenkins and Gareth Anscombe had this injury. Jenkins was out for 2 years and 3 months and has had to rest after just a few matches. Anscombe is still out after two years. This is really bad news. We won’t see Yaks next season imo.

No chance of either Joao or Puscas being sold now.

That is a real blow. If we didn't need options on the wing before we most certainly do now, squad is paper thin.

Great to see Reading’s injury crisis taking shape already, just waiting now for Swift and Yiadom to be added to the list and complete the usual triumvirate.

But here’s hoping Yakou defies all predictions and is playing again by the new year.

This is just a disaster, isn't it? Threadbare squad, soft transfer embargo, we can't afford key players out for the season (and Meite is a huge player for us).

We must hope that Pauno and the Dais can pull a few rabbits out of the hat in the transfer market, otherwise a relegation battle is a real possibility.

Yeah, I'd expect him to be on crutches/using one of those knee brace things until at least the new year. Then it'll just be walking for a month or so.

That's incorrect. Average downtime after reconstruction is 6.5 months out of training and 7.4 months out of competition. The best case scenario (and this is very unlikely) is three months out of training and another two weeks to regain match fitness, in which case he could be back playing in mid-October. I would say that the chances of Meite playing before the New Year are about the same as the chances of the injury ending his career, although there is a very high chance the quality of his play will be affected. It is entirely reasonable to expect him to be playing in February or March, though of course it is by no means guaranteed.

He’s had a rough run with injuries and of course losing his father. I think we would all hope he heals quickly and can return at some stage next season fully recovered.

So into training at the start of this week, injured, scanned and operated on before Thursday. fcuking stinks. if he did it in other activities that's his own problem. the sodding club shouldn't be paying for it.

He didn’t deliberately set out to seriously injure himself. We don’t know how it happened but accidents happen.

Listen mate, Swift got injured last season without playing, we didn`t see him again until christmas time, Puscas got crocked without hardly playing, and now this,
I dont expect to see Meite on a football pitch this year. its just the same year on sodding year, it just has to change.

It has to change? How are you suggesting accidental injuries don't happen? Make training non-contact? Bubble wrap the players?

It is called bad luck, it happens.
