Southwood looked decent - couple of nervy moments but it looked like he had a good rapport with the defenders and actually communicated with them.

And he looked safe with the ball at his feet and able to keep the ball on the pitch when he cleared it which was a step up.

I for one felt more relaxed with him in goal. Make it your own now young man!

Hound Swift just an absolute joy to have in the side at the moment. Didn’t play brilliantly but that goal…so impt as well

Thought Hoilett did well and Puscas had a strong game

Puscas has been pretty good this season. Just lacking the goals. But causing problems, working hard. Contributing.

.

Our only recognised striker lacking goals.

Could be a problem

Agree on Southwood. He did a job tonight and looked ok. Some good saves too. I'm sure he'll be fine covering for the next 10 games in Rafael's absence.

First half we were really poor, worryingly poor.

Second half we were ok but not at our best. Still got the job done and pleased for the win. It does paper over the cracks though with some hard games coming up.

Yeah but oddly it's not stopped us scoring. We've scored 6 GOOD goals in 2 games. That's impressive. He's probably sucking up a lot of defensive energy and creating a lot, allowing our midfield to score. Long went 18 games without a single goal but many here loved him for what he brought to the game. But yeah you do have a point. It'll come.

genome Less said about the way the cross was defended the better, but I must admit that ball in for Peterborough's goal was an absolute peach

I love to bash zonal marking but to be fair you're right, beautiful ball in, brilliant goal and the guy was (allegedly) being marked by Ejaria.
Ejaria could've done better than just stand there not realising he's in the middle of a football match but he was never going to win a header against that chap anyway. Just a great goal, shit happens.

He simply isn't good enough for this division at all.

And that's where you are wrong - his all round play last night was excellent and his work to set up the second was the pick of the bunch. He gave an outlet, won his fair share of balls and created space for others. He was always looking to make runs that were not always spotted - a very decent forward's performance. The goals will come.

As mentioned elsewhere, he took up some great positions and on one particular moment Swift took the harder option to shoot rather than slip it in to Puscas to have the easier chance - understand it on Swift's current form but you could see how angry Puscas got, which is good to see. Puscas is starting to look a lot more like the player we thought we had signed rather than the one we've seen of late.

True, I think relying on goals coming purely from midfield isn’t great. But if that’s our option then let’s hope it continues

Also can’t see swift scoring 46 goals this season

But if he scores 16, Puscas only really needs about 12. 20 and ~ 8 if others chip in.

There's not really anything wrong with goals coming from midfield, we've done it before when Sigurdsson score 16 in the 09/10 season, goals are goals after all. It seems Swift is playing in a more advanced role this season and thriving, long may it continue.

I don’t even know why teams bother with strikers

I’m more than happy to have goals coming from midfield, I worry when they aren’t being complimented by goals from our main/only recognised striker.

And of course with Mr Caskey before that.

As soon as Rino is fit would push Laurent out wide for Ejaria as TDB looks basically the same but an upgrade. And at least Laurent will run the ball forward at pace.

Unlikely to happen given that we’ve already used that midfield trio and FDB was the one pushed out wide left. And given that Rinomhota was pushed further forwards onto the flanks on occasions last season (unsuccessfully I may add), Laurent is perhaps the last to be shifted further forward of the three

Thought Ejaria did OK last night. Ineffective first half but picked it up second. Very good at finding Swift between the lines and those two interchange well. Do wish Swift would stop dropping so deep as we see the impact he has further forward as opposed to taking the ball off the CB’s and trying to play from deep

Yeah Super Daz was great, but then so was the goalmachine Forster.

Ideally we need some combination of Forster and Caskey, but obviously there's no such person.
