MATCHWATCH : Hull City (h)

by Sutekh » 30 Nov 2021 13:16

When : Saturday 4th December 2021, 3pm
Where : SCL Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Hull City next in town and another challenge to Reading’s really unimpressive home form.

The Tigers started season well with a 4-1 win at Preston however they then collapsed into even worse than Readingesque type form with only one win from their next 15 league games. Of course now the two clubs meet each other Hull have gone to the other extreme and currently can’t drop points for love nor money being on a run of 4 straight wins. To make it sound a bit more positive from Reading’s point of view let’s say they’re on a run of 12 points from the last 27 that have been available to them.

George Honeyman and Keane Lewis-Potter lead the goal scoring efforts so far for Hull with 6 goals between them while Josh Magennis and Richard Smallwood are offering some useful support to the team especially recently. All seems a bit of “not too sure what to expect” kind of game, with the expectation of Hull being rather **** now being truly turned on it’s head - which may actually help given Reading’s current problems. Should at least stop any sense of “only having to turn up” that might be in the backs of people’s minds.

Only three injuries known for Hull; Lewis Coyle, Brandon Fleming and Alfie Jones. Reading have, what is for them this season, an almost entirely fit squad to choose from with only 8 injured (Moore, Morrison, Ejaria, Joao, Meite, Clarke, Hoilett, McIntyre) + 2 deemed missing in (in)action (Araruna, Rinomhota).

Referee

Steve Martin

Historically

There have been 26 previous league games in Reading against Hull City and it's not an especially good record either with 10 Reading wins compared to Hull's 7. On top of that Reading's recent run at home to Hull is not especially brilliant with two wins and five draws to show from the last 9 attempts. Defeats tend to be close affairs with just one goal deciding it (6 of Hull's wins have been by just 1 goal) while 8 of Reading's wins have been by at least a 2 goal margin. There has only been one 0-0 in those previous 26 games.

How to follow the game

  1. Get a ticket and travel to the Mad Stad
  2. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use a RoyalsTV subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Bright start for both teams, but we really should have scored from Carroll and Halilovic there.

Then let off by offside goal for Hull.

Carroll having a bit of a miss start.

Air kick shot

First touch to Hull

Cross field ball to Hull.

Hopefully something falls his way soon.

Good game, fairly even. Chances coming both ways.

Swift just missed a 1 v 1 he has to score.

Christ, Yiadom at his worst there. Dives in on the edge of the box and gets no where near the ball, beaten all ends up and could have given away a bad foul.

Set piece beats our defence at the back post yet again. So so easy.

Southwood just headbutted the post and looked a bit dazed.

oxf*rd me, Holmes smashes a cross straight at our own goal and a great reflex save from Southwood.
