I'd take on NGW on 1 condition. We nickname him Obi Wan in tribute to his great grandfather.

Having said that, Nesta was Bob Marley's middle name so we could call him Bob.

Really liked the way the team were set up and played last evening. One player i thought who will relish this formation is Ejaria and i feel this will improve his effectiveness considerably.

Agree, definitely think he is best in the middle of the pitch and I think that's where we will be able to see him be more consistent.

That number looked very off to me judging by the queues outside the ground just before kick-off and at half time in the downpour.

blythspartan I know it’s only preseason but things already look more promising than they have done in recent years.

Yes agreed. I think he will go into the new season as a fitter squad too. We started pre season early and hopefully that will benefit the squad.

Agree with both and our results have been good as well. I know we should be beating lower league opposition like AFC Wimbledon and Maidenhead, but it looks better that we actually did and did so with relative ease in both games, battled to a solid draw against a strong West Ham side and were competitive with a regular CL side in Benfica, losing out because of a lack of quality.

But it definitely does look more promising, I can remember pre-season's in recent memory where we were struggling against sides we should have been beating.

Tbf, half the players who lost the game against Benfica are gone. The first team held them to a draw

In lieu of any official highlights - this isn't too bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9OWUbNBvFA

Our goals are around the 6m30 and 17m10 marks. Penalty given at 14m30 and the save at 14m45.

Yeah so there is definitely come context to put behind that result as well, but overall it's been as positive a pre-season we've had for a good long while. Granted, the bar is very low for ourselves this season.

Yeo thanks for digging that out

Enjoyed the two goals. Both good for different reasons. Good pace from Yak

I enjoyed it last night.

I thought we put together some good combinations and everyone did their jobs fairly well. Bouzanis looked alright if a little flappy on a couple of corners. Good penalty save though.

NGW and El-Mhanni not quite as impressive as against West Ham but I would still take them both on. NGW gives that bit of depth on the left and El-Mhanni looks like he has something about him. If we can get it out of him he's worth a punt.

I liked the ground and the journey was a piece of piss too so that's good.

It's been a decent pre-season so far, of course that's no indication of how well the season will go but it'll be nice to go into the season with some positivity.

Up in Chesterfield due to work and stuck with a muppet of a Derby fan who’s convinced they’ll win league 1 with more than 106 points. Great news to see the game is being streamed live by the club and for free , I think.

Defence is looking reasonably solid, the goal aside, but there's nothing going forward. Brighton are closing us down quickly and there's no outlet other than a hoof forward. We then drop back deep and let them play in front of us.

Done alright. Brighton obviously a decent side unfortunately but thought we’ve defended well. They haven’t created too much considering

Struggling to get hold of the ball and Brighton close done very quickly

Still it’s basically their first 11 and we’re still in it. Be nice to create a few chances at least though

We have no options on the rare occasions we have the ball. We have hardly been in their half and not managed a single attack of note. Brighton are quick and fluid and at the moment are streets ahead of us,

Meite never has and never will be a lone striker. Needs someone to play off/play out wide to be at his most effective. Simply doesn’t have the capability to hold the ball up to bring others into play (up top) and as such, ball never sticks and we struggle to build attacks

But that’s the idea of what pre-season should be about, give ideas on what can/won’t work

We have defended pretty well but our midfield has been thoroughly outplayed. We need to be pressing a lot more.
