Prediction: Reading v Feyenoord

by Alan Titchmarsh » 09 Aug 2006 07:22

So will the might of Dirk Kuyt and Pierre van Hooijdonk et al scupper our final preseason build up or will the might of the super royals bear through

I predict a riotous 2-0 defeat for Reading to thus ensure this pre-season is like all the others of recent years - lots of games against lower level teams in which we do OK and 3 games on Swedish soild where we flatter to deceive followed by the standard home defeat to the only decent opposition we play.

Of course it remains to be seen whether the season that follows also mirrors previous 4/5 years progression.

It's only a friendly so result doesn't matter. More importantly hope that no serious injuries occur.

Anyone know what (if any) impact bookings/sendings off have in friendly matches? Are these carried into season proper?

Bookings don't tend to. A sending off can do depending on the reasoning behind it. If a player gets two bookables the ref may not report it or ask for them to be subbed so no suspensions is forthcoming.

If violent conduct is involved it would be reported by the ref to the relevant FA and action taken. So for example, if Bikey signs, he will have been reported to the Swedish FA who will send a report to the English FA who would then have to ban him.

Are you sure? Convey got sent off in a friendly in Sweden last season and didn't get a ban.

I predict that there will be a thread on Monday moaning about how dull the game was, how friendlies are rubbish, how the players seemed to be in second gear, and how the 20 royalty points thing is outrageous.

They still might, the dutch didn't send the report in time for the FA to ban them for the Fulham game

BTW I predict myself and Huntley & Palmer will have to confront the full horror of the North Stand smoking ban on Saturday
