SC says

by Alan Titchmarsh » 14 Aug 2006 09:14

Re: Steve Sidwell, this is what SC has said on the OS today:

"I would like to make one comment with regards to Siddy and when his name was mentioned over the tannoy. He didn't get the same reception as the other players and there were a couple of chants about him later on. I don't want our supporters singling him out with different behaviour or different cheering. He is a Reading player, he's giving his all to us and that has been apparent right throughout this pre-season. We should welcome and encourage him, be enthusiastic and not judgemental."

I would like to fully agree with these remarks and could not believe that a few were booing him when his name was read out on Saturday.

When a player plays for this club they should get 100% support on the pitch.

Perhaps, when the plastics arrive in force on Saturday these few will be totally drowned out!

Is exactly the point I was trying to make last week but apparently it just makes me a Sidwell groupie.

If Sidwell gives 100%, he'll have my full support, if he doesn't, he won't.

yeah but you wouldn't boo him as his name is read out. I didn't hear any booing anyway.

The cheering was more muted than for the others, rather than booing.

I will.

I will be screaming his name as others will I'm sure. I want to give him a lift, the confidence to play just a bit better. Any singling out, booing, or unappreciation will just distance him from the fans and the club. He won't want to keep working nad playing for the club and would want to go elsewhere.

I think he wants to go elsewhere anyway, but I get your point.

A touching statement Mr Coppell but unfortunately football fans aren't that bright, Sidwell will go booed by some on Saturday and by more as the season progresses if he doesn't play well. Ball is in your court Mr Sidwell

All I could hear shouted was something about "signing the deal" on sat. Not exactly abuse.

all i've heard so far is jibes about signing, which sidwell himself has taken well.

i wont boo him, but it doesnt matter that much whether we support him or not, he's got one foot out the door

I think the response was in answer to what Coppell said, to be fair!

I am a bit naffed off with Siddy this summer but he is a Reading player and come the new season everyone, as SC saya must get behind him and everyone else, this season will be tough enough without getting on our own players backs.

There were a few 15 year old chavs sat behind me in Y24 who booed him when his name was read out, not much otherwise apart from the Sidwell sign a deal chants every now and then

2 possible scenarios came out of saturdays game for me...

1) Sidwell isn't good enough to play against anyone semi decent with a touch of pace based on the lack lustre performance he gave on saturday

or

2) His mind is elsewhere and he is going to be a liability come next saturday

either way young mr sidwell needs to pull his finger out or he is going to be remembered solely for being a mercenary who sulked until he got his move / payrise rather than a player of merit who graced our first season in the premiership.

so because i didn't go to this friendly am i a plastic to?
how long do you have to have supported Reading to not be a plastic?
maybe you should be greatful we're getting high attendances now, i'm sure you'd be moaning if we were in the premiure league and still getting 9000 like we were when we first moved to the madjeski.

on the subject of sidwell he shouldn't be booed, he hasn't really done anything wrong yet and its just a sad fact that thats how the game is these days.

People around me booed him, but I don't agree with that. I don't like the bloke, but he's a decent player and we should support him whilst he's in a Reading shirt.
