Mark Robson was a very good loan signing for us. He was on loan from Spurs as a 17 year old. Very skinny boy. Ended up playing for Charlton.

David Byrne played for us on loan in 91/92. He was pretty useful.

Appointed Assistant to Sturrock today at Swindon.

I've said it before, I'll probably say it again, but the worst loan signing has to be Dave MacDonald, a full back from Spurs in the early 90's, who was absolutely woeful

Good on paper, regrettably less than satisfactory on the field of play, he was lazy and ineffective. As documented recently on the GF forum, he was roundly barracked by the travelling loyal Royals at The Valley in the '94 match, and celebrated his goal by sticking his fingers up at us - what a guy.

handbags_harris He did...was a part of our promotion season. Did well when Whitehead was injured and came in on loan.

And after Hahnemann went back to Fulham!

Indeed...although I didn't actually think that was relevant.

Well, you seemed to imply that Roberts came in immediately when Whitehead was injured, which was obviously not the case.

If that was the way it was interpreted, then I take my slightly sarky comment back. I knew Marcus arrived before Roberts.

Must have been very useful to combine playing with fronting Talking Heads. Wondered why he isn't making so much music these days.

Jim Leighton came on loan to us in 1991 after making a series of balls ups for Manure. He played 11 games for us and was outstanding pulling off some outrageously brilliant saves. The loan spell resurrected his career as he moved on to Aberdeen and reclaimed the Scotland shirt.Leighton is currently Goalkeeping coach at Aberdeen.
Leighton wasnt the prettiest of loanees and perhaps someone should have pointed out the correct use of brillcream but in his short spell he did a grand job of gaurding the royal onion bag.

Adrian Whitbread in the 2000/2001 season, although it was a tragedy he couldn't play in the Playoffs.

Yep, that would be my five too.

Little and Chadwick were pretty ineffective whilst on loan. But not as disgraceful as Eric Nixon up at Leeds

Mark Robson wasn't that great. I remember his kit looking massive on him.

David Byrne was pretty good. We should have signed him at the time.
