If we really are one of the quietest teams....

by Shevchenko » 20 Jan 2008 23:18

Playing teams like Manchester United and Liverpool and listening to their fans, it makes you realise how little variation we have in our chants, so here it is: my third attempt at getting us to introduce some new songs. I'll suggest a few to get us going (and then I'll let you all criticise me for my efforts).

So here goes:

R-E-A-D-I-N-G
Reading are team for me
with a nick nack, paddy whack
give a dog a bone
Why don't Oxford f*** off home?

Carefree, where ever you may be
We are the famous RFC
and we don't give a f**** whoever you may be
'cause we are the famous RFC

We shall not be moved.
We shall not, we shall not be moved.
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
just like a team, that's not f***ing going down
we shall not be moved.

We're not Chelsea or the Arsenal
We are the amazing RFC
But we'll really shake them up
When we're in Uefa cup
'cause We're not Liverpool or Man United

We've already seen the Reading win the league
We've already seen the Reading win the league
We've already seen the Reading,
already seen the Reading
We've already seen the Reading win the league.

Perhaps even get some ironic songs going, before opposition fans start singing them at us:

We've never won f*** all
We've never won f*** all
we've never won f*** all
F*** all!

Who the f***ing hell are we?
who the f***ing hell are we?
who the f***ing,
who the f***ing,
who the f***ing hell are we?

I hereby open the floodgates to your response.

I posted this in club policies but I think it also belongs here - apologies to any cross-posting purists!

Dirk Gently It's a nice, simple, equation that applies at every club, whether they have a "singing block" or any other artificial construct.

Tension, passion and excitement on the pitch = noise and atmosphere from the stands.

Tension, passion and excitement on the pitch against a "big" club or in a match that matters = double noise and atmosphere from the stands.

Submission or lack of passion on the pitch = no noise and atmosphere from the stands.

It really is as simple as that - and all the "singing areas," "whistling areas", "scarf-waving areas", song-sheets, drums, etc etc won't change that.

Organised singing is tosh.

If you want a laugh go to an away game. You're not going to get anything like that going at the MadStad, I'm afraid.

I thought the 'Cisse, Cisse, Cisse, Cisse' effort was particully unimaginative on Saturday.

How about to the tune of 'Can't take my eyes off you':

Ka-li-fa Cisse,
da da da da da da Kalifa Cisse,
da da da da da da Kalifa Cisse,
da da da da da da,

It would be good if someone could fill in the da da das with actual words.

On the subject if singing at the Mad Stad can the people in the NE corner please drop the the Come-on-Rea-ding chant. Its meant to be done with ferocity and passion but the way it is done there sounds shit. I have heard people in the past having ago at the lot in the Y25 saying that the songs are sung too fast but tbh thats the way it should be not like the dreary slow paced rubbish heard elsewhere and that goes for a lot of the songs. Actually make it seem like your excited ffs

and it sounds like an invitation to the opposition to cum on us.

are you the angry man who hates that song, and complains whenever the drummer tries to get it going?
i never sing it now, purely out of respect to you if it is

It does anger me but it's probably another angry man elsewhere 8) Which is good as the anti come-on-read-ing movement grows. I too tend not to join in with that chant which is the best way of protest. If the chant doesn't get going it won't be used again. Well I hope so anyway!
