The search for a manager who is not a yes man...

by Forest Gump » 19 Aug 2009 23:38

.... goes on it seems. We need someone who - for the good of the club - will tell Madejski that he is wrong not to invest. Yes it is largely his money and he can do what he likes with it but with a bit (actually a lot) more ambition he could make the club successful as well as financially secure. But the way he is going will see a steady reduction of the fan base and an inevitable decline to League One or Two.

but that's why he was hired - he was willing to have his team sold off from under him because he thought he could replace them with the kids that he worked with. The other option was staying at Watford and having the same happen but without the kids...

Darren Ferguson was my first choice (may of been RFC's first choice) and for a little bit more money than what we paid in compensation to Rodgers, we could of had him.

He would of had the bollocks to stand up to idiots like Howe and Hammond.

The competition for who can make the thickest post of the week is clearly gaining momentum.

The team being sold off is Coppell's...................that's the one that was costing as much as 30k a week per player and produced relegation form in the last half of last season but why let facts get in the way of yet another pathetic attempt to blame the chairman for failures on the pitch.

yet more abuse from you Royalee, there may well be a point in the original post tho. however the last manager to stand up to JM and insist on heavy investment was TB2, and look where that got us.

The second half of last season produced 31 point in 23 games, that equates to 62 over a full season, not relegation form at all WR.

I too wanted Ferguson, and felt he could move the club forward, however it was felt better to poach a manager that had only been at his club for half a season, good job we have morals at RFC, unlike Wolves or West Ham when they took previous managers.

All in all we have to wait and see what occurs, too early to say we shall succeed or fail, give it time people.

JM was away on sabbatical in Dubai when TB2 was Manager.

Mmm. That's a point. Are there still any moneyed Dubai connections? Still, I expect that that avenue has already been explored.

Let's be fair to the complainers, they have waited three games before calling for the manager's head, surely that's reasonable?

Forest Gump has hit the nail on the head , Brenda is JM's puppet , if you look close enough you can even see the strings!
SSC must have had the same problem ( no money to spend ) he just coverd up the fact by saying his team was strong enough. From the dizzy heights of the Prem Mr Mads tight purse strings has left us to spiral into oblivion.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

If that means losing lots of glory hunting school kids or associated idiots whose lives are so pathetic that they need to bask in the reflected glory of their football team to have any sort of personality, and whose reaction AFTER 3 GAMES is to demand a new Manager, then I think the loss of those "fans" its something that the club won't lose too much sleep over.

How you know that BR is a yes man? Or that SC was one? I'd love to know what goes on behind those closed doors if you do have an insight. If you don't...well, you're wasting your, my and everybody elses' time and energy.

glass half full JM was away on sabbatical in Dubai when TB2 was Manager..

he was out of the country as a tax exile and setting up a new business, not backpacking round Thailand and India.

He would have been fully in control of events when Tommy Burns was there.

Au contraire - RFC don't give a toss whose money they coin in, whether it be from RTGs, STGs, oppo supporters etc - makes no difference. They just want the readies. Look at the song and dance they make when STsdropped from 15k last year to 11k this year (despite a virtual complete dismantlement of a team, to be replaced with Academy players).

No, money is RFCs God I'm afraid. Ambition (as the fans understand it), has absolutely no place in the current RFC make up.
