southstand67 Didn't Roy Race leave Melchester rovers and join another club - presumably so the comic could still be called roy of the rovers. What was the name of the club he joined, before going back to Melchester Rovers?

Walford Rovers.

Don't even need to check.

Bobby, you're a legend. Did Blackie Gray go with him?

Maybe it is time for a new nickname - how about the Appollos? After all, Brendan keeps telling us it's a new cycle.

No manager would take a job if there were strings attached.

..... Which I can't stand, a rip-off from QPR who, for the record, still use the nickname to some degree. I always remember as a kid shouting 'Come on you Royal's' as the players came out of the tunnell at Elm Part, but this mysteriously changed as from about 2000 onwards everyone started saying URz. Why did it change, did an influx of new fans unable to bleat out the one line correctly make a difference or was I wrong all along?! Someone please help! :? :P
I don't know why they refer to themselfs as Rs. After all, their name starts with Q.
Still, we ripped off their shirts so why not their names as well....
please tell me thats a joke? QPR kits were originally green hopes until the early 30's i believe.. they stole our kit!

Do you think West Ham and Villa have this constant beef going on?

Maybe we could claim royalties on QPR's shirt sales. That would back up the nickname argument as well.

Idiots

It has been previously documented on here about the rise of URZZZ! around the time of pants and more fan involvement with the club. If you consider the Berkshire burr, the three R's of Reading and the R of Reading you naturally come up with "C'mon you RRRR's! which is hardly a quantum leap to URZ's is it? and royals is so, so manufactured and late on the scene. C'mon the Biscuits!!!

It wasn't exactly a serious post, it doesn't need any deconstruction.

No argument, I thought I'd acknowledged that in the rest of my previous post, but it is accurate to say that Roger Titford's G'arn URZ tee-shirt helped to raise the profile still further at the time of pants.
