Couple from a few years ago always spring to mind

Mark White and Jerry Williams. 24th and 18th respectively in the all time RFC league appearance rankings with 265 and 285 starts respectively.

Keith McPherson and Gary Peters ditto, and to make it 5 how about Pat Earles?

Colin Baillie. Always put a shift in, to use the common parlance.

Archie Lovell.

Great club servant and Reading through-and-through. Met him once when he was selling Heaven 11 at the top of Wantage Road. Genuinely nice bloke.

I'll go with Chris Makin as well, along with De La Cruz. His goal against Sheff Utd was top notch. Ricky Newman is another guy who worked admirably and Kevin Watson was a very good passer. I wonder how well he would have done in the Championship if given the chance. Thought James Lambert was pretty decent as well from the few times I saw him.

Steve Richardson - made the full back position his own for the best part of eight years. Made in excess of 400 RFC appearances but rarely ever gets a mention when these type of topics arise.

Adrian Whitbread, always put in solid performances and gave top effort. He was very similar to Ivar in that you always knew what you'd get from him.

Had totally forgotten him, but agreed.

An unsung XI perhaps....

Whitehead

Makin
McPherson
Whitbread
UD Cruz

Salako
Watson
Gooding
Hodges

Lovell
M.Williams

Manager.... Quinn/Gooding - Never got us relegated despite limited funds

rhroyal Ricky Newman could do a job in central midfield, central defence and right back when required. Never set the world on fire, but never let us down.

If we're having Skittles in for comedy value then I will put forward Martyn Booty; I swear I once saw him try to take a corner at our defending end :D

Sammy Igoe. Never the best, but for a little guy he got more than his fair share of crosses in and wasn't afraid of hard work.

Matt Robinson. Worked as hard as anybody else and was pretty solid.

Neither of them were ever going to set the world alight, but they were here at the start of what was to become the most successful period in our history. Heroes to me, at least in a small way.

Adi Viveash. Solid and dependable and a really nice bloke.

I remember the League Cup game against West Ham. Viveash was in the process of overcoming a very personal tragedy so no more fitting player to score the winning penalty in a shoot out on September 11th 2001.

Gutted that last 2 posts beat me to it: Igoe and Viveash.

Also would add Martin Butler. Annoys me that Cureton gets so much more mention than Martin, who was a superb foil for him.

Newman been mentioned already.

One for the future for unsung: Tabb

I remember Igoe had a good run in the side in our first season in the old Division 1. Derby at home 27th Dec he terrorised them. That day Tyson scored early doors North Stand end and then Cureton scored last 5 mins after their keeper flapped at a cross. 8)

I forgot about three just mentioned. Igoe used to score some cracking goals, and Viveash and Whitbread did a very good defensive job back in the day. Just a shame that Whitbread suffered that injury, like John Polston as well because he could have been a good servant as well.

I wouldn't say Lee Hodges and Matt Robinson would be an unsung hero, because I thought they were rather pants. Problem is we didn't have anyone better at the time!

I'd like to throw Gunnarsson into the mix. I think his bad games have been few and far between (actually the bad ones have been awful - Pompey away?) but I think he's been a very solid performer generally. Can fill in wherever asked and, despite a lack of pace, will put his boot in for the cause.
