Probably been posted before (that's the danger when you don't keep up) but found this on the fantastic British Pathe News website. (Hours of fun to be had there!)

Rather more pleasing than this video of the old place:

AMAZING VIDEO CAPTURE.

great reminders of 1990's cars and Transit Vans

Excellent reminders and the backdrops of Elm Park...........you poor sucker Swansea fan with the good video camera......you identified every Welsh meat-head offender and yet showed some lovely parts of EP

If ever there was a case to to expell the Welsh from the Football League back then, this was the just reasoning

Swansea visit on Boxing Day....lets hope that they are more festive than the miserable buggers from Cardiff were last year.

Reading were mocked for years after this, still turns up these days. Reading giving it mount and then run off lol, individuals taking on the whole south bank, taking liberties in our town.

They were drunk and rowdy from the word go, great stuff.

A town being mocked by a handful of thugs for not fighting a selection of Swansea knuckle draggers. Yep, makes me ashamed to live in Reading alright.

Great film - but 40k? I thought the record attendance at Elm Park was 33k?

Yes, 33k against Brentford in the cup. I think there may have been some embellishment by the commentator there.

Watching that, I must say that policing/stewarding of games has come a long way. The way, they let those guys get away from them time and time again was amazing to watch.

There were a few things that came together that day. Firstly, no-one expected it. We played Swansea the previous year (and the year after come to think of it) and there were no problems. I had absolutely no inkling that there would be problems. I was drinking in The Victory beforehand and saw nothing to indicate what was to follow. It was pretty quiet down Tilehurst Road. It was only when entering the Southbank I saw the mayhem.

Secondly. TVP had to deal with some kind of demonstrations in West Berks on the same day (might have been Travellers or something similar) and were very stretched, There were very few police in the ground until about 3.20. I remember seeing about 50-70 police walking round the pitch from the Tilehurst End still putting their body armour etc on, as if they'd just been bussed in. They got a huge cheer.

When we played Swansea the year after, there was a huge police operation. Genuinely the only time I've seen more police on the away end than fans. The Southbank, feeling much safer, spent the whole game singing "where's your wakners gone....?".

i've never even heard of that day, what was it the end of 92/93? Absolute c**ts those who took part in the trouble, if there's one good thing about modern day football it's the removal of hooligan to$$ers like that

Hardly taking on the whole South Bank. Most appeared as though they could be bothered about the Welsh idiots. LOL in particular at two of them. The first in the beige top to the left of the picture who gets one foot up on the Southbank wall and then spends an eternity waiting in the clear hope that a steward will pull him back before he can get in amongst the Reading fans! The second in a white top who twice jumps in to the Reading fans, only to almost immediately cover his head with his arms as he gets a right pounding and has to be rescued by the stewards.

Seems that these particular Welsh must have got a thrill out of being beaten up. The guy in the number 12 shirt kept going back to get another swipe from the police truncheon! Hopefully one of the police dogs got an early feed off him too.

And back to the real important event of the day - we beat them on the pitch didn't we?

Well, that isn't true at all :| . I can recall a couple of Swansea leaping into the South Bank only to be immediately dumped uncremoniously back on their @rses on the cinder track.
