Dean Santangelo is Swis, although he's only played for the Youth Team so far and Alex Stockinger is from Norway I think.

We need to sign more North Koreans. They are especially good in defence and their commitment to the teachings of the Dear Leader would bring inspiring political awareness to the squad.

Bryan Carnaby played basketball for South Africa. Does that count?

It's time to update this list! So, with our new loanee, I guess I'll be adding South Africa to the list.

Plus I note that Leigertwood is Antiguan......

Motown
Wax Jacket If Kebe counts as Malian then Lita has to be English I'm afraid.

Which is a bit of a murking for Leroy as he could've had 50 full caps by now and played in a couple of AFCONs

Does that mean that Gilkes counts as being Barbadian? As if so that another one for the list!

He played for Barbados AFTER he left us. Though I suspect his parents or grandparents came from Barbados rather than Gilkes himself.

Bajan

In answer to the OP, and thinking through the current squad, I'm not 100% sure but is Jason Roberts from Grenada or is he just proud of his heritage?

Fairly sure that I read we had an Italian player in our pre-WW1 Southern League days.

Max Seeburg, a German, was the first foreign player to player for us, in the pre-WW1 days.

I've found references to both these players in David Downs Biscuits & Royals. The Italian was Antonio Freezia, and Downs names him as the first foreigner to appear in Reading's colours, in the 1914-15 season. After this he then also writes that Seeburg was arrested and interned after a Reading game and released a few weeks later. Wikipedia says Seeburg was on our books 1911-12, but this could be wrong as I'm not sure Germans were being interned as early as that.

I have a team photo from 1912-13 which includes Seeburg. At the end of that season Reading toured Italy and the first game was a 4-2 win against Genoa. The Italians' two goals were scored by Attilio Fresia, after which we signed him and he became the first Italian to play football in England.

Another book I've just looked at, Alan Sedunary's A-Z of Reading Football Club also says Max was the first, and adds that he captained us on several occasions.
