Gylfi Sigurdsson's accent

by rhroyal » 17 Apr 2010 14:40

Whenever the line ups are announced on BBCRB, I have a little laugh at Gylfi's accent. He's got a proper local accent, not a foreign hint about it. Stephen Hunt and Shane Long never managed that!

Its a Scandinavian Icelandic thing.
Look at Jan Molby (Danish?) sounded Scouse
Peter Schmeichel (Danish) sounded Manc

Our Northern European friends are very closely linked when it comes to linguistics.
The only difference being they speak different languages

I will tell you.

I worked in Reading for ten years and their addiction to sound like cokernees is very sad, the normal accent around Reading is a chirpy confident voice but no way near cockernee.

Mostly the accent comes from people that want to be cool or think london is cool. FACT

Siggi sounds like a natural Berkshire person, which is refreshing. He is torn between Reading and west berkshire imo.

When i was young i thought being cockernee was cool, it isnt. trust me.

Cockerney? I can't speak for everyone from the town but I've never felt the need to wear a flat cap and start talking in rhyming slang.

The Iceman and the Gunnar have strong accents but generally I find Scandinavians (if you can call Icelanders that) are much better at picking up the English accent than anyone else. I listen to a fair amount of European bands and the Scandies always sound brilliant.
