HRK or Michail Antonio?

by Royals-lad14 » 05 Aug 2010 16:54

If Kebe is not available vs Scunny then who will be the likely replacement. you would think it would be HRK, however Antonio seems to keep improving atm and may just stake a claim if kebe is not available. I personally think if kebe is not fit for scunny then i think McDermott will play HRK, however im not sure who is best as Antonio looks certain to be one of the up coming talents of this season.
HRK or Antonio?? :?:

Poll please!

HRK was still learning his trade last year. OK he didn't have the impact of the Sig and isn't at the level of Kebe and McAnuff but he is able to make things happen, winning penalties or scoring. Hes a very direct attacking player and I think that desire to wriggle into good positions is similar to the style McDermott likes.

Antonio is also clearly looking good. His asset seems to be his strength, something he has over HRK who at times got slightly bullied out off possession last season in my opinion. He scored against Wolves and several when on loan at the saints last seasons.

HRK will be stronger for his appearances last seasons. Antonio may sound the more exciting prospect, but its a gamble throwing someone in (eg church v Burnley).

I think Antonio's chance may come later in the season after a few shifts aquitting himself well as a sub. HRK will probably just grab that third choice winger spot on experience this Saturday.

I'd rather see Antonio but I suspect that it'll be 4-4-2 with The Sig with and Church and Long up front if Kebe is missing

Robson-Kanu needs a position.

When he plays upfront he looks like a winger playing out of position. When he plays out wide he looks like a forward playing out of position.

If we had no Kebe I'd be tempted to play Antonio if he wanted a direct replacement as he just looks more likely to do something positive and he seems to be on a bit of a run of form.

I don't think either are quite up to the job mind, so it makes little difference really.

HRK definitely deserves the chance. He did well last season whenever given the chance and must be ahead of Antonio at this stage. Antonio should be given a chance from the bench.

HRK is more of a left winger than a right winger

Well why not put McAnuff right wing and HRK left wing?

Against Southampton, McAnuff started on the right with HRK on the left. IIRC when Antonio came on for HRK, McAnuff switched to the left so Antonio could play right.
McD seems top stick to his guns, so I think if Kebe can't play then HRK will start on Saturday. Antonio will then get a start at Torquay on Weds.

Both have played left and right wings so Brian could play to their strengths. IMO McAnuff looked better at RW than LW last year and only got pushed to the left because Kebe looked so much better on the right than he did on the left.

Easy decision if Antonio is sold to the Saints who have reportedly bid £500k for him.

SDR gathers Saints to bid £500K for him. Todate Royals have signed two players and spent £50K

No change in terms of the old skin flint of a Chairman.

1st choice LW McAnuff
2nd choice LW HRK
1st choice RW Kebe
2nd choice RW Antonio
3rd choice either wing Taylor (well he seems to be capable of playing everywhere else, so why not).

LW and RW are interchangeable to some extent, but I see the "natural" selections as above. So if Kebe is out you could bring in either of the 2nd choice players. The actual choice would depend as much as anything on the relative strengths of the opposing team.

Spot on about him needing a position.
In my eyes whenever and wherever he plays he looks awkward and out of position.

Antonio all day long. Much more natural talent than HRK.

I'm not so sure

I think Antonio is very raw, he has an energy about him which seems to push him further than his talent would suggest

HRK is a good technical player, who given a run of successive starts in games would make more of an impact IMO

Start with HRK to give him his chance, then bring on Antonio as an impact sub after about 60 minutes.

win-win
