STAR statement on dismissal of Nigel Adkins

by STAR Liaison » 15 Dec 2014 21:29

Given performances over the last couple of months the dismissal of Nigel Adkins is understandable, if perhaps a little premature given that the new owners have only been in place for three months. However something had to change. The verdict on any managerial sacking can only be delivered when the replacement is known.

Nigel deserves credit for the dignified way he coped with the immense difficulties of the last two years without complaint and it is fair to say that he never had the financial support he would have anticipated when taking on the job. As supporters we really need to get behind the team on Saturday and make a fresh start.

On that point then, where do STAR sit on the sacking of Brian McDermott?

At STAR we're a very progressive and constructive organisation, not overly given to wallowing in gloom and apportioning blame. So, collectively, we've drawn a line and moved on.

If I might be allowed a personal opinion I don't think the sacking of Brian McDermott did the club any good. However whoever had the manager's job in 2013-14 was holding a poisoned chalice, given the finances and ownership situation, and I can't see that Brian would have made much difference.
