STAR Membership 2015-16 now open

by STAR Liaison » 01 Jul 2015 10:35

We're now taking memberships for the 2015-16 season - available on-line at http://www.star-reading.org.

Or if you're an off-line kinda guy we'll (probably) be at the Club Open Day on 31 July and certainly around at the first home friendly the day after.

Same old prices - £10 adult, £5 concessions.

In addition to the usual benefits this year we're offering:

- one free go (in the past we've charged £5) at the STAR Predictor competition which now has a £300 first prize and other prizes totalling £200. In order to enter this you need to be a STAR member on / before 6 September 2015 and to have submitted your entry. See further details and download an entry form from the home page of http://www.star-reading.org
- +20 Royalty Points to your account (previously it was 10)

Usual benefits:
- free entry to Fans Forums
- access to STAR coach travel to every away game
- 10% off voucher for Megastore
- enamel badge (so beloved by The Whiff)
- access to Jazz Café on match day for non season ticket holders (provided door staff are properly briefed)
- Exiles groups that can access away ticket benefits
- free members magazine 'Reading Matter' and regular 'STAR Bulletin' updates by email
- you'll be a STAR shareholder (over 18s) and supporting one of the largest supporters' trusts of Championship clubs
- the stronger we are the better we can represent all Reading fans to the owners, national supporters groups and the media
- we're an organisation open to fans suggesting things and members taking part in our activities / meetings

Membership now already over 250 I'm told - must have been talk of that football special train we were going to run to Bangkok.

Anyway as part of the new season spring-clean starliaison has become STAR Liaison, transformed in the manner in which lwj became LWJ. Thanks for the tip LWJ.

Also I'll take the opportunity to introduce STAR Voice who replaces STAR Campaigns as a moderator and STAR spokesman on this forum, STAR Campaigns having had an Anton Ferdinand-esque 2014-15.

Forbury Lion What happened to STAR Wars and STAR Trek?

STAR Wars is a bit hoolie for us and we are consciously self-limiting on star puns.

On the Wars allusion, here's a good quiz question: which football club chairman of the 1970s and 1980s earned a lot of money from very publicly advocating after match violence?

I'm sensing a trick question...... was it a chairman who was involved in running boxing clubs or something?

I still chuckle at Reading matter, works on so many levels.

Simple things please simple minds I guess :)

I'll give you half a mark for being on the right lines. It was Watford chairman Elton John who had a hit with 'Saturday Night's alright for fighting'.

We like it too (or most of us do) but still no-one is sure how to say 'Reading Matter' in our meetings! The name pre-dates STAR by the way.

I believe they are done in monthly batches by the ticket office. My estimate would be either the end of this month (July) or August.

Over 500 people have joined STAR already for this season so there are a fair few to get through.

Hope any delay doesn't inconvenience you - are you thinking of Brentford away?

Everyone who joined in June and July had their details sent to the club on 1 August and the ticket office are aware that the 20 points may be crucial so they were getting on with entering them straight away so they may well be there by now.

The usual procedure is that they are sent monthly at the end of the month.
