For someone who criticises Jem Karacan for preferring the safe ball it's funny how you don't recognise the exact same quality in Barton. Obviously his temperament lets him down and tackling's not the best. He's not even the best player in his own team's midfield.

Whose better than Barton at QPR? If you say Tarabt i'll laugh you off this thread.

barton whilst on form at man city was a quality prem midfieler he also showed gljpses at newcastle, not on the level of gerrard, lampard, etc but in the bracket behind capable of playing ( I said playing not DOMINATING european competition) he was recognised with a cap for england. He has energy, scores the odd goal and is a good passer of the ball. He is also a smarter player than he is person.

Karacan however has energy and thats it. People around me are starting to grumble at his performances also, his first touch for a centre midfield is really poor and one reason why he'll never be a premiership player. He also can't pass or create and goes back more than he goes sideways or forwards. He has the odd good game and works hard but quality is off im afraid. If you and some other reading fans lost the love child attitude for him and compared him with other centre mids then you'd see he lacks some key attributes. I don't like Barton as a person, he's a tosser, he's also extremely obnoxious and a clear wind up merchant on the pitch. However I do recognise he has a lot of quality when playing well and in the right environment, failure to recognise this just shows you let personal feelings get in the way of footballing opinions...something quite common with a lot of reading fans. Funny how our club more than most always has to have a pantomime villain on the opposing team to boo.

Watch the QPR Chelsea game again the only player using his brain and showing class in the QPR midfield was Faurlin. Top six players play for top six clubs whether their "day" comes 5 games a season or 38. I'm not saying Joey isn't a good player but we'll just have to agree to disagree on how good he is.

Have to agree with Finerain here. Barton has the ability to be playing for a top club side on a regular basis but his other problems means they won't really take the risk. He was hated up in Newcastle to start with but his performances on the pitch last year made him quite a crowd favourite. That tells you how good he is.

Where Charlie Adam, Scott Parker or Tom Cleverly worse players last year? Are they suddenly a lot better now they're playing for top 6 sides?

I don't understand what Tim Dellors obsession is with Jimmy Kebe. Yes Jimmy didn't have a great game against Peterborough, however he did get two assists last night.

If players are playing poorly he should say so, but he shouts at them and gets angry and then Mick Gooding usually tells him he is wrong. He's there to commentate and Mick should give the opinions.

He's also there to be an onjective communicator of information. He's not there to push his own opinions and prejudices.

No, Tim Dellors focuses on one person, and consistently points out every little fault in him. Example last night "Kebe didn't do anything in the game". He forgot to mentioned the two assists. I thought our midfielders Leigertwood and Karacan had a very poor game. Tim Dellors didn't mentioned that. Dellors sounds like a bully to me.

And he's utterly shit at it. It's almost impossible to know what's happening in a game with that cretin doing the commentary. I normally switch to the oppo these days.

I'm surprised, really. I love Tim Dellor's commentary. It's as big a part of tuning into a Reading game as the game itself.

Much better than all these characterless fartwits on other channels. Get more life out of text commentary than any of those clones.

Love the Dellor.

Personally I don't enjoy his commentary. Just don't get a clear picture of what is going on when he is on the mic. Other than the fact he had a particularly hot cup of coffee at Warwick services on route to an away game.

A good commentator should be able to be factual while not being boring. Dellor is neither IMO.

They should also be impartial and objective, but there are precious few of those around.

But in any case they should at least be impartial and objective about the team they support, and certainly not have any favourites or targets for criticism.

It's local radio. Why on earth would we want it to be impartial?

....and Dellor is also a fan...a Reading fan....he's been presenting for years (firstly as sidekick to Joel Hufford)

...and that involves the scathing criticism of our own team members when necessary (Svjavlyd)...talking coffee and half time pies

In his favour, he attends every game (allbeit paid to do so) and (unlike many a Reading fan) never leaves early.

Personally, I'm with EP on this one, his meandering commentary helps keep light of some of our sometimes-dire situations whilst helping to build up a picture of the venue for those that aren't actually there....I sometimes enjoy it.

We've done the droll factual commentary thing across the airwaves back in the 1990/2000's....107/Classic Gold never had enough listeners to make it pay....so BBC Bluerinses Tim has won through and is what we're left with.

Whilst the increasingly menopausal IanRoyal vents his spleen (as do many others)...it is not totally representitive of all on here...obviously.

Exactly. National radio has to be impartial, local radio should be biased towards its local teams. Tim will say when the opposition is poor and likewise will say when they're playing well but he should focus more or less exclusively on Reading and whether they are good or bad.

As far as I am concerned its good he moans like a right old woman when the team performance warrants it and likewise praises them when they're performing.

As for the commentary itself, you do not miss the vital bits as they only waffle when nothing is happening and I always find it reasonably entertaining unless they go on and on about the same old thing.
