Scutterbucketz Someone I know works for Select Car Leasing. When Covid hit they immediately put the vast majority of their staff (30+ people) on government paid furlough and continued with a skeleton crew, meaning she was was made to do the work of 12 people.

Nice to see they now have the money to sponsor Reading just over a year later.

If you need a lease car https://www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk/ are almost always much much cheaper.

Bit harsh. It's not like people would have been queueing up to lease a car during lockdown. They would have took a huge hit.

They’ve actually done fantastically out of it. Less cars, but no staff to pay but the benefit of still owning a company built up by those former staff members. Hence why they know find themselves able to sponsor Reading.

Highly dubious in my book she'd have had the work of 12 people, (a) since there were less cars being leased which means less work than normal and (b) it's literally impossible to fit 12 * 40 hours work into a 40 hour week - implies under normal circumstances each of them only does a 4 or 5 hour week but gets paid full whack....

I mean, I get that it's annoying being on full pay, but expected to work, where some of her workmates were on 80% or whatever it was, but were able to stay home, but we're not talking Spoons here, where Tim Martin basically wouldn't even put his employees on furlough as it would cost him too much money and told them to go and work for Tescos.

Possibly some of those furloughed and trying to live off 80% of their normal salary would have been unhappy they weren't allowed work on full pay.

Select would still have had to pay pension contributions, national insurance, rent, utilities, for their premises, pay for the cars they'd already bought, but couldn't lease because of reduced demand, etc, etc.

And this sponsorship money may well be an attempt to regain lost ground as far as business is concerned - or advertising budget they normally spend elsewhere, but they have decided to target at Reading FC instead.

royalp-we Why? It’s not like we’ll cross paths with many teams that would hate us for it.

It’s the 2020’s m8.

Someone should tell that to Rangers and Celtic.

Snowflake Royal Why would there be any association based purely on the year founded. We've got nothing else in common.

Both clubs are loyal to the crown

Exactly. Like I said before the old timers chirped in; I’m surprised there’s not more of an affiliation. The fact we also both share the anniversary in the same year, plus the players will be in Scotland anyway just seems as good an opportunity to play them as ever.

In what way is Reading FC "loyal to the crown"? It's a poxy nickname, that's all.

That was the comment that made me realise it was just nonsense.

I favour a thicker hoop and a v-neck collar my friend. Was hoping for more of a retro look to it too, was holding out a bit of hope for a lace up collar.

OMA is very wrong if he doesn't like that shirt HOWEVER he is right on the lack of a collar being disappointing. Not convinced its the real deal though, no red in it at all.
