A new garden of remembrance is to open at Reading FC where fans' ashes can be scattered. The club stopped buring fans ashes under the pitch 18 months ago due to to higher demand.

Looks shit. Leicester had something a lot nicer than this.

Well, I think it's a nice idea - they don't have to provide anything. So well done RFC.

It's a good idea yes, but as usual the execution is shocking. It Resembles a substation more than a place of reflection. Investment required Asap.

You are just looking at the outside. It looks much better inside.

The opening ceremony and dedication is tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm. So you can go along and have a look for yourself.

I think that's just the angle of the picture - the training dome in the background isn't part of this. It's basically just a fenced-off, landscaped, area.

The flats off Oxford Rd have a fenced off area identical to it. In comparison to Leicester's it's pretty awful.

You are judging the garden by the fence around it.

Also, Leicester have what is basically, a bench of remembrance. We have a garden. It would be fine to have it open to view like Leicester's if the stadium wasn't surrounded by concrete and gravel parking areas. I'm not sure I'd want to sit in the garden quietly contemplating whilst looking out at a car park.

That's not how I remember it. They had an area, larger than ours but nicely partitioned off, with plaques, I assume with the ashes underneath, and just plaques for remembrance. It was quite touching I thought.

Leicester's "Garden of Remembrance".

We also have benches and plaques.

See now that's nice. That makes me want to visit it or pass by it and pay my respects, rather than look at ours thinking it's somewhere I can find a grundon and throw away my burger wrap.

In comparison to the blue fencing behind, the concrete pillar front left is even leaning to the left. Very Reading Borough Council.

So you prefer a tarmaced road, iron railings and tree / bushy verge backdrop to an unmade road, wooden fence and the training dome backdrop.

Big woop of difference. The Leicester one only looks nicer because you can see the prettiness inside.

Would make all the difference if they had some form of foliage covering the wooden fencing.

That takes time - unless you can buy fencing with foilage already grown around it!

It has also happened because one man has put hours and hours of work into making it happen and a very small number of people have made donations of money or plants. Judging by the look of it yesterday and given it is still new and the plants are not established, it could become a pleasant place to sit and the wooden fence means you can sit in peace without looking at the car park :D

If you think it should be better I am sure he would welcome help in keeping it watered and weeded. Gardens do not keep pretty all on their own.

Was the idea from a bloke off here who was posting about having more places for flowers by the remembrance wall?

In any case, I think it's a lovely idea and as I said the other day, the club didn't HAVE to do it - so I'm not sure why people are moaning. :|
