Wimb my outrage has been tempered somewhat by the realisation that we charged United fans £36 back in 2007...

A voice of reason. £45 is a lot, and it is too much, but ticket pricing is a general malaise in football and certainly not one that Man Utd are the worst at. I thought that they have one of the cheapest season ticket prices (minimum price - but I guess the top prices are very high and the cheap ones difficult to get, but still ....).
Monday night football is just a fact of life - we get Mi££ions for the TV rights. That's the deal. Get over it.
The silver lining is you can spend the £45 in the pub (apparently we need to support local pubs) and keep the travel money for the 6th Round fixture

It wasn't a personal dig, but while there are always people who are prepared to pay whatever it takes to watch a match, clubs will be able to charge ludicrously high sums.

Because you do have a choice - and that's not to go. Clearly the price is awful, but not *that* awful, which would be awful enough for you not to go.

so you think that if no reading fans turned up man u would put their prices down?

personally i dont mind paying this much for the occasional match. dont get me wrong if prices were this high for every game then there would be no chance of me being able to go but they arent. I only payed £10 for my newcastle ticket so the money saved from this match can go towards the united game!

I have more of a problem paying £28 for derby away last year than i do paying £40 for to watch the likes of rooney and van persie play at one of the best stadiums in the world.

i am not saying that these prices are acceptable, i am simply stating that there isnt much option and i dont mind paying this much occasionally.

It's gonna be an expensive day out following Reading whether you fly, train, stay up in a hotel or drive. Tickets should be easy to come by though seeing as some will be put off going as it's a Monday fixture, away from home, on the TV and £45 a ticket. Not sure though as I have lots of glory hunting friends that suddenly want me to try and obtain a ticket for them.

Of course not. One match isn't going to make any difference - it'll take a whole series of poorly-attended games before people realise that they've squeezed the tips too hard....

But while there are people who'll effectively say "whatever the cost, I'll follow my team" they'll be able to exploit that loyalty at will.

Likelihood of sellout for FA Cup

by DaveBanana » 03 Feb 2013 17:15

Hey all, quick question - Ive re arranged a work trip to manchester to conveniently be on the 18th :D I have a Kenyan friend who has never been to Old Trafford and is really up for coming along as an honorary Reading fan for the night! Just to make sure before spunking money on hotels and such, what is the likelihood that it will sell out before general sale? Im a member and will sign him up, but would be devestated if we miss out!

Thanks, and any local pubs for away fan advice would be brill!

depends how many tickets we've requested - but I can't see it selling out really - not for a Monday night in Manchester and the costs/time involved for a lot of fans. So I reckon you'll be ok.

I’ve got to go up to Manchester with work soon, so I could quite easily plan some meetings around this and stay up there. So I could be IN as I’ve still not been to Old Trafford.

We can't go as Mr Eel will have to work. However I worked out that 2 adult tickets at £45 plus petrol there and back would be more than £120 so have got ESPN for a year, so we will be watching on tele.

How come they arent yet avaliable on the online ticketing system, however it says they come on sale today?

Also, when do the league tickets come on sale?

£45 for an adult on a Monday is expensive but they've made up for it by only charging £12 for the kids. Considering its half term, it makes it worth it.

IN for this and my boys Mascot as well.

massively out for this. Crazy prices on a crazy day, and made a little bit easier as we go to OT a month later that has been moved to telly by ESPN again, i'm not going twice.

Can see why Reading didn't challenge £45. even if it was £20 on a monday night i doubt many Reading fans would go, so in the best interest of the club, we'll take 45% of £45 instead of 45% of £20
