In the days before Kingsley Royal and animal cruelty being recognised as a thing, The players used to come out onto the pitch lead by Biscuit the Bear and his handler.
Probably the only instance of a bear being red carded was a home game against Gillingham where Biscuit took an unexplainable exception to one of the opposition players and took a swipe at his leg, from that day on his days were numbered as he was getting on a bit.
Initially after Biscuits retirement to Windsor Safari park (now Legoland) there were plans to have a bear mascot costume but I guess someone has a lion costume available on the cheap so Kingsley Royal was born.

edit - I do also recall a game of half time play your cards right with Biscuit selecting higher or lower with his paws.... clearly his trainer giving instructions.
