Ops meeting with RFC and Fan Led Review latest

by STAR Liaison » 31 Oct 2022 11:13

Just posted a piece on each of these - Ops meeting with club on 26 Oct and STAR's latest take on the Fan Led Review - in the HNA STAR Forum.

Or if you want to cut out the middle man go straight to the News section of www.star-reading.org

So, in summary the fan led review specifically called out RFC governance, and the ownership holds STAR in such high regard that in the course of a year you still haven’t even managed to have a single meeting with anyone senior to just discuss it's recommendations.

Great.

Care to update us on your progress on this Ian or should we assume you don’t actually ever do anything other than lecture others from the comfort of your keyboard ?

It's not great. It's also not unusual among EFL clubs. Whilst the EFL as a body is in favour of the FLR recommendations a number of its clubs are said not to be and that number might include Reading. A few clubs have moved a long way voluntarily on parts that don't need legislation (Cambridge U, Doncaster, MKD) but many seem to be sitting tight and waiting for instruction and / or legislation. STAR has asked supporters to lobby both their MPs and the club to support the FLR and yes we are still continually pressing for a meeting on the subject, whilst preparing our side of the talks.

I think it says more about the club's attitude than STAR, which doesn't really bode well for it learning to behave itself in future.

Are they really related though? Our sufferings in the main have come from major overspending in many different ways, what that has to do with the fans I do not know.

I'm all for more fan involvement in clubs, but as mentioned, we aren't the only club seemingly "resistant" to it and I don't think that relates to not learning from our previous mistakes either.
